dumb question

Since I now am the proud owner of one of Nick's whips, I have a question. Do I just let it get broke in on its own from practicing, or should I treat it with some sort of leather conditioner to soften it up. I know absolutely nothng about whips!! I could and should research this section, but I have absolutely no spare time these days and just do my perfuctory checks on the Fedora section each morning. Any advice would be appreciated!! thanks in advance. Fedora

Best way to break it in is to use it regularly. You want to keep the fall well greased, preferably with Pecards - but Vaseline is better than nothing.
The rest of the whip doesn't need so much attention - keep it free from any obvious dirt, and condition it every 6 months or so with Pecards.

Sounds pretty familar Steve. My new one from Pagey arrived yesterday (GORGEOUS!!!) and I hardly have the time to crack it

Don't use it on concrete etc., as this will hurt the leather. Oh, and watch you right underarm. It might hurt tomorrow from praticing

Fedora, Welcome to the Bullwhip forum .

Break in your new bullwhip slowly just buy using it, Avoid the temptation to rush it along buy using a leather dressing to soften it, that’s not recommended. You’ll want to treat it with a light coating of leather dressing every so often as it’s used but there should be more then enough leather dressing and plaiting soap in the whip now. Don’t over grease the plaited section, but don’t let it dry out either. Keep your fall well treated though.
