help with grips on my airsoft

Post by Shawn »

I distressed my FBI 38 from Shorty http://www.shortyusa.com/airsoft.html?h ... 1159380373

and I have adapted one of he wood grips I recently got to fit. The problem though is the airsoft does not have a full handle. (The plastic grips formed around the handle whereas the wood grips are flat)

My question is #1. Which looks better, the plastic grip

or the wood grip:

I understand it seems odd to try to get a distressed realism and yet have the blaring "FAKE" orange tip but I don't want to risk any encounters. 1st it's illegal, and 2nd we had a kid killed because of toy gun here recently.

Here is a picture of the grips on their own:

And the inside of the plastic grip and the wood grip I put a gouge in to allow room for the gas tank in the middle and original wood grip far right.

And now question #2

Here is a couple of pictures with both the plastic and wood grips on and you can see where the gaps are that the wood grips allow.

Do you know of anything I can use to fill in those gaps?

Thanks

Try using metal tape. There are several types (lead, aluminum, and stailess steel). They come in varing widths with pressure adhesive tape on the back. It will take several layers to build up to match the wood. I have worked quite a bit with lead tape, but it is very soft. Probably better to try the aluminum or stainless steel and paint to match,

Hope this helps.... :)

Lookin' good! :) The wood grips definately add something extra to the pistol.

I'd try sheet styrene to fill in the missing frame. It shouldn't be too tough to cut out the shapes you need to fill the gaps and styrene is easy to work with and fairly easy to find.

The best solution IMO. See if you can find some black styrene (hard to come by) otherwise use the white. get a plate that has the same thickness as the gab and fit it so you have an overflow. Put the grips back on and mark along the grip edge so you can cut and sand the styrene to size.
