Yeah I would think "SA" was screen accurate. If that's the case you might want to get one of the Magnoli HJ's that Fedora is making up on his block or the one Marc is offering. You get the hat that was used in the movies and blocked on a great raider's block.

Considering that Fedora's block shape is considered the most SA, and Indy Magnoli's is a real Herbert Johnson with Fedora's block, I'd say order from Magnoli. He's a capital fellow, too, so you shouldn't have any customer service problems.

Yes, the HJ would be screen accurate in name, but I haven't seen a current one that was very good felt. If cost is no object, I would get the most screen accurate one that also has the best possible felt and thus will last the longest. I would get an AB from Steve or Marc. The rabbit hats aren't as good a quality as 100% beaver.

magnoli's HJ is technically an AB with HJ's rabbit felt and brand name. i believe they are using the SAB felt which is noticeabley different than the offering from todd....it's a tadd thicker from what i've experienced but close to steve's rabbit AB. i believe the turnaround on the magnoli HJ is better than an AB/AB deluxe. i haven't heard or seen marc's HJ offering is of yet but i have read how discerning he is with the materials that are used and what he puts his name to.

i would go for either magnoli's or marc's HJ offering....leaning toward's marc's due to his experience with the deluxe side of things.

Exactly what I said. The HJ rabbit felt doesn't hold a candle to the 100% beaver felt of the AB or the AB Deluxe. He said that cost was no object, so he might as well get the most screen accurate, highest quality, Indy fedora that we have available to us right now. He is ordering in advance for Christmas, which is still a long way off, so turnaround time is not important. Trust me, he will be sorry if he doesn't get one of the ABs.

Strider, you hit the nail on the head. I have only seen one AB Deluxe and that was GraveRobberGreg's. I know he is my friend and all, but I would still knock him out and take it if it was in my size. Darn it! :(

Anybody that has met GraveRobber knows that is not an easy thing to do. He's a stocky lil' fella.

Go look in the vendors section. There are a bunch of discussion strings and photos there that show all the ones you want to see.

I have no feers...The AB deluxe is on lock down and the lazer grid security system is armed. Once the alarm is set off it will fry the eyes out of the one who tries to take it. Linda like looking into the ark.

Michaelson that better #### good coffee your offering :)

And all jokes aside if the AB had of been too large for me I wouldl have given it to Bufflehead. Remember he was my ride to the summit.....it would have been a long walk home.

I would have to agree that knocking me out would be a tough thing to do. I cant say I can ever remember being knocked out. I can however remember kocking a few out myself :)

I can say thanks to Michaelson that I have a few really nice hats and the AB deluxe is one of the nicest. Thnaks Michaelson. And thank you Marc for donating the AB at the last summit.

And thank you Bufflehead for getting me involved in COW. There are a few members here that were at my second summit who remember me saying that I would join the forum but I wouldnt be buying all this stuff. They tease me everytime we see each other. I have alot of stuff and half my home theater is INDY!!!!

I GOT TOO CLOSE AND CAUGHT MAD C.O.W. DISEASE AND THERE IS NO CURE AHHHHHHH!!! (that is Buffleheads fault)

AB deluxe all the way!

If you want the hat that is truly adventure worthy as well as screen accurate, go with the Adventure Built. If you are in the US, so with the AB from steve , if you are in Europe, go with the AB Deluxe from Marc. Both lids are somewhat pricey (compared to akruba's and JPD's prices - they are also fantastic hats!) but you often get what you pay for! In the case of the ABs, it is genuine Beaver felt that will resist shrinkage and tapering over time.

If yopu want the best Fed that doesn't cost a mint, go with either an Akruba fed regular, or a JPD (Jimmy Pierce Design)... Both of these are great and their prices hover around $100.

I want to set this straight (again.) The fact is that we all get the same felt - me, Marc, and Fedora/Magnoli. It all comes from the same place. There may be minute differences between production runs, but that's it. There was a recent change with their felt manufacturer (I don't know if they changed manufacturers or if their manufacturer changed their felt) but the felt supplied as of about four months ago is subtly better than what they had for the previous several years. Same thickness and color, but a little different feel. You can't tell them apart by looking, but they do feel slightly different (and smell different).

The only other differences that might be perceived are in finishing - amount of stiffener, amount of stretch during blocking, etc.

It's amazing how if something gets repeated enough it becomes a fact (like HJ's can't be reblocked). Don't mean to step on your toes Indiana G, but I do know about this and I want people to have the facts. Thanks!

 Dead on Puppetboy. All of us are getting the same felt, and I think we all specify no stiffener, or very little stiffener. This mimics the Raiders felt very well. Fedora

Sorry, I didn't write that last post. Either someone in my shop posted this for me, or someone has hacked into my account. I will ask around the shop Monday and get to the bottom of it.

To those of you who saw this post and thought it was "uncharacteristic" for me to say these things - you're right. I didn't. I don't try to twist anyone's arms on this board to buy anything from me, as I don't think that is appropriate.

Carry on.
