Used hat pricing
I saw a used Fed Deluxe on ebay for the same price as a new one. The claim is "worn with love." Do you think this is usual or reasonable. In my day, used hats went to the dump or the Salvation Army.

A hat is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Personally, if it's the auction I've seen, I'd just go ahead and buy a new one and put your own "love" into it. I may pay more for a used hat if it's true vintage or a rarity, but the average hat I won't bat an eyelid at if I can get it new for the same price. Some auctions assume that buyers don't know the difference in cost, so it's always buyer beware, in my opinion. If you want an Akubra Federation Deluxe, buy it new from www.hatsdirect.com. Yes, I personally think they're asking too much for that hat.
