Look at the pocket on the Flight Suits website that came out about two months after I bought my jacket. Seems the same to me.

Chewing Wax: From what I gather, G&B strayed from the scalloped pocket flap pattern awhile back, then got back on track.... Don't get me wrong, I think your jacket is great. :) I just personally like scalloped pocket flaps..

Check out these Expeditions to see what I mean:

I think it's very interesting. I'm happy to have an "early edition" of the Expedition with all it's "flaws". I just never noticed the lack of scallops before. Clearly you are right.

Thanks again. That last thread has a sad ending there. I keep thinking that with today's computer imaging technology, some sort of definitive 3-d model of the ROTLA jacket could be created. It's like literary criticism what with all this debate about what the actual jacket was in all the intricate details. I guess screen shots are open to interpretation. Is that an x-stitch or the leather gettting pulled in an x like shape?

The key to finding the holy grail of Indy Jackets is to get one that fits you (not harrison ford) and that is comfortable to wear and then wear the H*** out of it!

Just for the heck of it, I tried to figure out what I was seeing as compared to my early Expedition and the stitching on the strap. I can honestly see how a "v" shape appears without any stitching on a rectangular box. I took a picture of it. You can see where a V shape appears within the box just from pulling it. Sorry if the picture is too big.

Yeh, you're right. That's the front attachment site.

I'm late to the discussion, and it's from a different thread, but I thought the front pocket-side strap attachment was the one being discussed. I see that there are two debates going on, and the "v" is the rear attachment site. Thanks for clearing that up.

No, actually we are talking about a V stitching.

How come my Expedition collar doesn't lie flat like it should?

How about them Sabres?

You know, everybody has a different opinion on just about every detail of the jacket. I firmly believe that most of us wouldn’t know a screen used jacket if we saw it in front of our noses. I had WW2 collector tell me once that he’s gotten pieces directly from veterans and then have self appointed “experts” tell him his pieces were “not authentic”. With that said, I feel confident in saying that the Expedition has the best Raiders collar out there, bar none. It does however require work to get it to look like the movie jacket. You really have to “roll” the collar in your hands to get the leather to relax and get it to lie properly.

I think that’s a prototype jacket on the website. The pocket flaps are a little long for a Raiders jacket. Even though there were a few initial tweaks on the Expedition, like the backwards seams (which is how they were on the Leonard jacket) and pocket placement, I don’t believe that the Expedition ever went into production with the longer pocket flaps. Yours is indeed a prototype like this one:

Prototype eh? That's good to know.

Roll the collar huh? I've been rolling the collar for five years. I guess I'm not putting enough elbow grease into it.

Thanks for all the info. I love this stuff.

Looks great. Truly one of the best Westeds ever made.
I think, I wish it was my size. I hope you enjoy wearing. Don't forget to train the collar.

Rick5150, that is a great looking jacket. The taper in the sleeves is exactly what I want on my next Wested. Is that an 80's fit? The arm holes look "high and tight" is why I ask.

Thanks, but I only bought it.

It is an 80's fit. PLATON's specs are on the first pageof this thread...

(Just in case it is not clear to everybody, I am not trying to hijack PLATON's thread. This is the jacket in the subject line. It did not fit him, so I bought it from him. I did not have it built using his specs, it is his actual jacket. I am only continuing the thread.)
