Another Option from Skechers
I bumped into my brand new close-enoughs in JC Penney. I was hoping to find the 6" Skechers boots, but I found a lower version instead. They are basically the 6" boots, but they have a lower ankle (but higher than a standard shoe). With pants covering the ankle, these will pass nicely. Also, the stitching is dark brown, so if you hate light stitches, these are nice. The finish is sort of nubuck, but not as "changable" in color, if you know what I mean.
The style name is Ripsaw, but I can't find them on the website. I have the box, so if I knew which numbers would help track them down....
Anyway, here they are;

I'm going to end up needing a new pair of regular shoes to wear with my casual clothes and my old skechers have about had it. I may end up looking for these. I really like that color of brown. It's to bad the boots with the higher ankle I own didn't come in that color.
Still, my Skechers boots color gives off that dusty "worn in" look that I like and they seem fit in with my gear.

I'm in the market for some new hiking type boots. Do you know if these come in a B width? That's the biggest problem I have with finding shoes to fit me...as most companies that aren't a speciality type shoe store think men have feet shaped like a ducks, and the wider the shoe, the better they like it. It just doesn't cut it for me.

I checked the Skechers website and they only list the shoe sizes.
The one nice thing about this particular boot is that they are still available in most stores across the country. They do have a store locator on their site so you could use that and see which stores near your area carry them. I bought these at my local Shoe Carnival. The boots model name is Traffic.

I have very narrow and long feet and these boots feel great. They really feel "broken in" right out of the box.

what kind of pants are you wearing in that pic?
Platon, the pants I'm wearing are the IZOD American Chino"Basics" color / Decaf Coffee.

It looks like the color I have isn't available through that link anymore. I bought mine here in town at Macy's. The pant legs were cuffed at the bottom but I removed the stitching and ironed it. They also don't have the back pocket flap. I picked them up because they were on sale and the closet color I could find to my other "Close-Enough" pants...The Oak Creeks.

PH; Turns out I like the color of your boots! Anyway, when I tried on the shoes, the first pair had a wild variation in color - one really light, one really dark. So, if you find them and you don't like the shade of brown, you could ask if they had another pair. The color may be completely different!!!Pitfall Harry wrote: I really like that color of brown. Well, I called Famous Footwear, and they didn't have the Traffic, but they did have the Mariner, which is black and seamless-toed. Since I had to stop at the mall anyway, I thought I'd try the Mariner on to see if the larger size would work. They didn't, but as I was walking around, I found the slightly lower version in my size! They are pretty nice. I fortunately had a pair of the right pants on, and they look great. I have some brown dye downstairs which will darken them to chocolate. I may try this, although they are pretty good as is. If I do, I'll post pics. Otherwise, check out Chewie's. They are pretty good!

P.S. It was a good Indy day, as I found a nice plain black tie also. Satin, not silk or twill, but the sheen is soft and at $6, who's complaining?

Thanks.
I will keep that in mind when I go looking for a pair of those shoes. It's funny that you found a variation in the color with each pair because I kind of noticed that with my boots when I was trying on the different sizes. It seemed like one pair was lighter shade of brown and the pair I picked out were darker. It's very odd.
I also don't know why these are selling on the net for close to $70 when you can pick them up locally for around $30.

Well, as a public service announcement for those members who live in Tennessee:
The weekend of April 27th - 29th is another Tennessee tax free day, so most all purchases, with rare exception, will be tax exempt.
So, if you're in the market for some boots, this is a good way to save a few bucks that weekend.
Did someone mention Dilliards having these boots?
Regards! Michaelson

Yeah, that's what I thought when I first saw the price before I bought the boots but there was no sale going on and there was nothing to indicate they'd been marked down either.
