Wested - Dark Brown or Authentic Brown

Post by coronado3 »

I noticed that PLATON ordered his new SA Wested in dark brown... As he is a stickler for accuracy, it made me wonder:

Which brown is closest to the jackets in the films? I have owned an authentic, and it looked great - I have seen a dark and it, too, looked very nice but a little reddish.

Also, are the US wings goat jackets closer in color to the dark or authentic? I have seen photos that look like they could go either way!

Anyone have any good photos of a side by side comparison of authentic vs. dark westeds?

Thanks!

Hi,

The reason I went for a dark brown was because I already own an authentic which I feel that without distressing seems to be too chocolate brown.

I chose dark brown because I had in mind HF's jacket in the scene with the fight with the mechanic. That jacket is under direct sunlight and yet looks dark almost black. Plus it's covered with dust and dirt but yet seems to be very dark.

I chose dark brown that because I do not want to distress it at all and have a darker than usual look.

How does Todd's jacket compare color-wise? Closer to the wested Dark or authentic?

That's the key. You have to distress it to make it look like the film jacket, otherwise it'll stay the 'smokey-brown' color. Once you distress it, it appears much darker.

The story is that Peter delivered the authentic brown. However, the jacket was distressed and looks like dark brown on screen. That is not only the result of distressing but also from the film and what have you.

The only case (for me) that the jacket appears to have a soft brown is the Raven bar scene with Marion (before the bad guys come in).

didn't NH also use mink oil on the jacket? perhaps this darkened it up?

todd's custom lamb is quite dark and is close to what you see on the screen (its hard to tell because half the time its quite dirty already. i think its bang on to the scenes in the raven bar). i'd say its closer to the DB lamb. its strange in the fact that the DB lamb is dark due to an almost purpley hue that it gives off....very strange. it is also apparent on the DB goat. todd's is just dark brown period. after alcohol treatment and sanding of my authentic brown wested lamb, it does come close to todd's jacket though.
