Thought you might be interested to see a whip I made for this years Sydney Royal Easter Show in the stockwhip section. It is a 7ft 24plait thong, with a 32plait handle. I spent between 40-50hrs on it. On the handle the strands started off at around 1mm in width.

Simon That is one beautiful stockwhip! The Sydney Royal always has some stiff competition in the whip-making department, but I think you will do very very well with that beauty! Did you do a bullwhip for the show this year too?

Thanks everyone for all your compliments. Dan, unfortuantly I didn't get the time to do a bullwhip this year. The results for the comp were as follows:
1st- My stockwhip. I'm not sure, but I may be the youngest whipmaker to have ever won the Sydney Show.
Congrats Simon very nice looking whip . We didn't send anything down this year after Sydney Royals packing methods damaged the pendant that Kerri made last year which cost $400 to get fixed... ..
I really like the 2 tone grape vine on the handle and your pattern work is very striking ..Keep up the great work.
Paul sorry but you won't be able to enter Sydney show as they stipulate that it is for Aussie residents only.But you can send something over for the Glenn Innes comp which is in November you will be welcomed with open arms there ..

That is too bad, but no worries. I will definitely shoot for entering something for the Glenn Innes competition! Are there any specifics for entering a whip? Do they accept Bullwhips and/or Stockwhips, do they have a specific length or plait number minimum. Does it matter if it is two tone or a solid color? Anything else I might not be thinking of?

The only specific for the Glenn Innes comp is it must be a stockwhip...
2 toned work is looked upon more favourable than single colour work ,length and string count is at your own discretion..
The organisers of the comp are looking to make this bigger and better every year. last year there were about 40 whips in 3 different classes .
At present there is no bullwhip class but this could change in the future as sponsorship for the event grows they will look to add more classes ..
Any overseas support will would be most welcome .

"Open" This classes is open to anyone...
"Novice" This class is open to anyone who has not won at any of the major plaiting comps...
Junior : Open to anyone under the age of 16 or 18?? counts you out mate ;0)
Plaited Belt .Open to anyone
Plaited hatband.Open to anyone
The event is held every year on the first Saturday in November..
I will chase up some more details for you shortly...

Chris, I really appreciate your compliments, thankyou. It is a real shame that you didn't enter at Sydney. However if they weren't careful with your gear I don't blame you.
Sorry Paul, I didn't realize that you couldn't enter at Sydney. Glen Innes probably has more prestige here in Australia anyhow.
