almost the right binoculars

Post by K on the run »

Look what I found when I visited my parents today.
They belonged to my great grandfather on my mothers side, nobody knows where he got them from.

Image

They are smaller than the screen used, about 4.7 inches wide.
The words "Lumelle Militaire" is engraved on the sides and on the eye pieces it says "Chevalier Opticen Paris"

There is a small compass embedded on the front bridge.
All in all some nice old binoculars.

Wow - this is beautiful K! You are always so lucky :D

I found these at a small flea market a couple of years ago:

Not wery SA, but it looks really cool - the strap was broken and it has a little rust, but the lenses are almost in perfect condition. I think i paid around 20 D.Kr. ($ 3.5) for it.

I found a very similar pair to the ones JEEP posted at my parent's place the last time I visited. I asked, "Whose are these?". My mother thought they were hers, but wasn't sure. So I relocated them to New Zealand! :D

Kind regards,
Indy

wow K! I like those more than Indy's! I'm sure he would have traded his straight up for a pair with an embedded compass. Too cool!

I wonder how many Indy related items our parents have laying around? Buffelhead found the Rawenbar seltzer bottle in his own garage. Keep your eyes open, this stuff it everywhere hidden in plain sight.
The binoculars from my parents has been standing i a bookcase for years. It was even there before I left home.

The compass still works I'm not sure how accurate it is by now.

Kim

I've got the Raven bar seltzer bottle sitting in our living room, a LC tie in my dad's tie locker and a Marion IMCO lighter in the drawer of my dad's desk.

Oh, yeah. I remember that thread now, Lightning. The matching shots with the screencaps were great. Your's looks screen accurate enough to me. What was the make of them? Colmont? What did you mean by FT Paris? Is that the model or something?

The only identifying marks are the words "COLEMONT Ft" around the top of the eyepiece and "PARIS" around the bottom. There are two six pointed stars with what looks like a small C in the middle seperating the words. The "t" in Ft" is smaller like a superscript.
