8ft Indy on a Budget

Post by IndyFan89 »

This is my 8ft Indy on a Budget whip from Winrich Whips. It looks great and you can't beat the pricing. Adam (Winrich) even tied a extra craker on the handle for me.

I highly recomend this Whip maker to any one who want's the Indy whip without the price tag! :whip:

I have his prototype IOAB whip and I love it. I got to compare it first hand with a current make at the last QM and I have to say the newer ones are very nice. They're noticeably lighter than the prototype, but they handle and crack beautifully.

Come to think of it, I've cracked the snot out of my IOAB and may need to send it back for a replacement fall at some point. But the whip is built like a tank and has taken all the abuse I've given it quite nicely. Oh, and it's LOUD, too. Especially in echo-y stairwells at the Queen Mary. Just ask Jerry and Dejah.

Bink,

I'd be happy to put a new fall on your IOAB. The new fall and labor is free, all I ask is you cover shipping costs. I can usually have the whip back in the mail by the next business day.

Indyfan89,

When I clean my whips I usually put a light coat of Pecards on them, and then wipe it off with a rag. The stickiness of the Pecards tends to collect the dirt and dust. You could also clean it with saddle soap and a little water, then grease the whip afterwards.

About the next whip, some people who've gotten an IOAB have gone on to get a kangaroo whip, and others have gotten a shorter IOAB, 6 foot, for some variety in their whipcracking.

Kind Regards,

Adam

Where can i buy Pecards Adam? There is a saddle shop down the street from me would they have it? After posting this i took a look at your kangaroo and they are very nice. Maybe after i destroy this one lol.

I was just out craking and man am i sweatty! :whip:

I like the length of my whip becuase i'm only 5'10 and it cracks nice for me. Next time i want more plaits so i'll probably get the 8ft kangaroo.! Just need the cash. :-k

Do i have to get the color shown in the pic for the 8ft kangaroo or can i get the 8ft with the 10ft color?

IndyFan, good luck trying to destroy your IOAB. You can try, but it ain't goin' down easy. Besides, why would you want to dstroy a perfectly good whip? And I keep thinking of "upgrading" my IOAB, but honestly I'm so happy with this whip that I'm content to hang on to this one!

Adam, that's great customer service! Maybe I'll try to get it in the mail next week if I find the time. Besides, I'm sure you'd love to see how your prototype is holding up and how it compares to your current design.

IndyFan, I've cracked the snot outta my IOAB and it doesn't look like it's ready to give up, though as mentioned, the fall could use a replacement before I crack it off. But the body of the whip still has lots of life left in it. If you look on his website in the gallery at the medium brown IOAB, that's my whip. It doesn't look so pristine anymore. :whip:

Indyfan89,

The 10 footer pictured on my site has amber shellac on it, otherwise it was the same color as the 8 footer before I did the shellac. So, yes, you can get an 8 footer the same color as the 10 footer.

I buy Pecards through their website, www.pecard.com.

You caught me at a good time to get a whip fast as I had just gotten caught up with all my orders. I think the next three weeks will be devoted to getting whips made for the WWAC convention. I have a really itch to make a few pairs of kangaroo stockwhips and some 16-plait bullwhips.

I also hope to finally nail down the record for the most bullwhip cracks in one minute this coming week. I have the preliminary paperwork that Guinness requires finished, I just have to make the attempt. So far I've made two attempts that could have been made official, 244 and 251 cracks in a minute, but Chris Camp told me I have to match my personal best, which is 261. At home in practice I've been able to get up to 258. When I did 261 a couple years ago, I didn't believe it at first. And now trying to match it I feel like I have to work twice as hard. I almost feel like Ahab going after his white whale.

Hey James,

'Bout the best pointer I could give you is to get a good video, like 'Whipcracking Made Easy' from WesternStageProps.com, or any of the other beginner videos they sell.

I ordered mine last week and hearing all the constant good reviews makes it easier for my explaining the purchase to my wife!
