what i look for as far as screen accurate:
the right hide and texture....custom lambskin:
the right size cargo pockets and the correct scalloping on the flaps:
the zipper should be silver and run the entire length of the jacket without leather facings:
the way the storm flap meets the collar:
the correct placement of yoke and sleave seam:
the correct hardware and strap orientation (at least what we have observed):
reduce the typical barrel sleeve size of your typical wested and then
put it all together and you have a beautifully made jacket from mr. todd coyle. todd, you are the man!:
the skeptics will prey on the size of the collar, but i think its spot on to the scenes in imam's house.
i really hope todd can get these jackets into mainstream production because there is no 'special requests' needed. what you see on screen is what you get
i will post more pics soon when i got some clothes on. pajamas don't do justice to the way the hide drapes over you....another skill todd has in ensuring the correct hide will work for the look we want. i can't be more happy with this jacket. my search for a raiders jacket has finally ended.....just before i broke the bank

AWESOME JACKET, G...JUST AWESOME!!!
I must say I really like the looks of Todd's jacket! I think this may be one of the best (if not THE best) looking Raiders jackets I've seen in a long time. I certainly hope Todd doesn't make any drastic changes, as I think he's got a real winner here.
I was truly psyched up about Todd's jacket after seeing G-MANN's pics, and your pics have got me amped up even more. I can hardly wait to see how this jacket looks when it's being worn. As for the collar, I think once that thing get's "trained" it will look perfect.
Excellent jacket, G! Thanks for showing off the pics!

Nice jacket, need to see it on G!
Different details are nicely researched, stormflap roundness, zipper from the bottom of the jacket, pocket placement, yoke.
The proportions look good, but the flaps look a bit "overworked" to my eye. (maybe a bit thick too). Collar needs training a bit. And this is a personal thing: the leather is too gnarly and unmatched for my taste, the colour matching between parts is a bit off.

Pretty impressive. I like the leather and the detailing. Pockets are almost pefect. Perhaps the scolloping is a little too severe. Maybe they could be just a fraction less pointy.
Questions:
Is the linging thick/durable enough?
Also, how is the stiching? On the photo marked "correct placement of yoke..." it looks like the sticking has spread - there are small gaps appearing in the seam where the sleeve meets shoulder.

The perfect jacket would be the one which would have the features shown above and woulbe be made by the original manufacturer.
In the absence of that, THIS IS THE PERFECT JACKET.
I have already ordered one from Todd and one from Wested. Long time ago. Nobody gave me anything yet. Tired and frustrated from the wait I bought a G&B. (Don't hurry, it was a G&B A-2).
If Todd and Wested don't respond shortly, I will get an Eastman...

thanks for all the kind words folks. still in my pj's as i just woke up. i'll get some pics this weekend so you can see the drape of her.
CM, the stitching is fine....just a bad focus on the camera. i'm sure g-mann can attest to the quality of todd's stitching. the lining is comperable to the wested cotton silicia/satin sleeves although the satin is a little looser in the sleeves from what i can see/feel.
a nice new shiney wested, this is not. it's even a long shot from any predistressed wested. the grain is similar to the pics i've seen on g-mann but not as concentrated throughout. it reminds of the the texture of the jacket that you see here. perhaps because all of the distressing gave the hero jacket a grain of its own:
now from this picture, the collar looks quite bang on no?

The leather looks perfect. The grain...perfect. I don't want a pefectly smooth leather, I want the rough, grainly leather we see on the original screen used jacket and this is it!
Thank God the collar and storm flap meet properly too. The top edge of the storm flap...perfectly rounded. Is the other side of the collar brought down a bit too? The Raiders jacket had a larger sized collar. Not the width of the collar, but the length.
Does the side strap hardware actually work or are they kind of like the D-rings and basically for show?
Todd, you did a BANG-UP job, my friend. REAL nice. I can't wait to see more pics and finally, one in person.
Too sweet.

Oh man! I love this jacket , especially the gnarly deeply textured leather, as someone else said "I don't want smooth leather" this is great. The pocket flaps really are shaped nice, zipper is what I've been wanting, rect. sliders are too. I might slightly reduce the collar size even though this one is probably true to screen. What's the hold up on us being able to order these ?

Thanks for the comments, everyone!
The leather is a new lambskin that I am working with a tannery to provide. We're working out the grain issue - the hides have grainy and smooth patches all on the same hides. I placed the grain for the best effect.
As for the pattern, I'm 95% satisfied with it. I made a few small tweaks, one of which is the point on the pocket flaps. Somehow, when they are sewn and turned they get pointier - or maybe they look pointier in person than they do on paper. The collar also got a small tweak, but I am keeping the cut of the collar - I finally got it to spread open the way the Raiders collar did. Not everyone will like it, but it looks like what I see on screen.
The update is that things are moving ahead slowly. I have some new workers that are getting up to speed on this. As soon as I'm sure I can handle it - workers and leather supply nailed down, I will take new orders. I can't give a projected date or price.
My favorite leather so far is calfskin. The next jacket is calf and I will take pictures to show off the leather texture. It looks dead-on to the screen jacket, and the drape can't be beat.
PLATON, perhaps you misunderstood - I'm not taking orders just yet. I'm just filling backorders at this point. You, and several others, have asked for jackets, but I haven't been able to set the price yet.Dude, where's my jacket???

This must have been before my time or I missed it somehow, do you know if their current lambskin (US Wings) is deeply textured? If so I may get me one of those Longs they have on sale..lambskin jackets from U.S. Wings a few years ago that had this deep, mixed textured leather.

...awooooo! Let it be known that I would be one of the crowd who would continue to raise a "howl of protest" with any leather jacket that had an extreme mixed textured leather as shown on the sleeve on this or any jacket I'd consider purchasing.Michaelson wrote:What I find interesting is that a howl of protest come from many of this crowd when they received lambskin jackets from U.S. Wings a few years ago that had this deep, mixed textured leather. I like the texture as I said, the reason is because I've had soo many leather jackets without any, particularly lambskin Indy jackets. Oh, there may be a small area here or there but nothing substantial, this one is refreshing. Upper chest areas are usually the dullest areas texture wise. TODD, if you find that you have a really textured hide lying around and you figure it won't get used because of it.. well contact me and I'll have you make me a jacket out of it!!

i just noticed something today that made me grin a little....todd has rectangular reinforcements on the front side of the strap and little baby x-box (rectangular) on the rear side. i recall this being discussed in the other thread. nice eye for detail i must admit.
the non storm-flap side just has a little nubby protrusion where the collar stand meets the collar. i forgot to compare that with my wested as to see what the difference is.Thank God the collar and storm flap meet properly too. I know you don't take orders. I was just kidding my friend as a reaction to the excitment.PLATON, perhaps you misunderstood - I'm not taking orders just yet. I'm just filling backorders at this point. You, and several others, have asked for jackets, but I haven't been able to set the price yet.
You know my feelings for you and that I was from the first supporters of your project. I believe that every good effort MUST BE REWARDED.
Your jacket is great and we all looking forward to owning one. (Medium grain/texture for me)
By the way, I am sure that I read somewhere in here that the inside of the collar stand was cotton. I know it's not durable and would probably get damaged after some wear.
But what is your opinon?
I love it. I imagine Todd will sell quite a few of these. I know I want one, in calfskin. But hopefully in a while Todd will offer my favorite hides-goat. Lambskin while accurate ain't tough enough for me personally. It is better suited for gloves and jackets you don't cross barbed wired fences while wearing. Fedora

Steve, how many barbed wired fences do you cross over in a day? and why? 8-[
ah and pocket flaps look great. I don't think you need to change them. Just make sure they re exactly the same in both pockets. Some A2 jacket makers can't make them same!!!
See left is bigger and the shape is not exactly the same. There are worse examples, but that's the one I could find without searching all the tons of my archives.

Everything I here and see just gets better. Todd, you have done what many thought was impossible - you've made a better looking jacket than the original provider.
For me, I'd want one in goat... Maybe down the track that will be possible. I want my jacket to be a working jacket.
Cheers to all on this happy occasion.

The family farm is loaded with them!! I have to cross one to get to my dig site. And keep a wary eye out for Brutus, the old and cantakerous Black Angus bull that has a long standing grudge against me. I shot him once in the south end with a bb gun to run him off. Todd - I've been watching your jacket project with great interest (as a lot of us have).
I was reluctant to buy one at first due to the lambskin. Reason being...I've owned a few lambskin Indy jackets and I just don't care for the leather in general. Personally, it's never really held up in my past experiences seeing how I can be pretty rough on clothing. So, I've kinda weaned off from buying lambskin over the past few years.
I think your attention to detail for the ROLA jacket deserves applause! If you can get your jacket in Goatskin, as you've mentioned, I'm inclined (and highly tempted) to purchase one as soon as you have everything up n' running in production.
Just wanted to pass along my compliments my friend!
High regards,
Aaron

Indiana G: The jacket is fantastic, and fits you very well...
No doubt in my mind now... that is THE Raiders jacket. Now to sit around and wait until they are available. It seems that there is always waiting to do huh? (Well, not in your case you lucky ba***rd.. )
Enjoy your jacket man, that is IT....

I don't want to sound like a total a@@h*le but I don't really like the fit of Todd's Jacket. It seems really screen accurate but if the jacket won't fit you right. You can hang it in the closet and you can say yeah finally I've got the ultimate SA jacket but it won't fit me really screen accurate. If that's the price for ultra screen accurate I better stick with the original jacket maker which is maybe not as much accurate but will fit yourself much better. Maybe that's a general off the rack jacket problem. I don't know... Hey I don't want to blame anyone here. That's just my personal opinion after reading this thread and looking at the pictures.

Are we looking at the same jacket? The pocket size looks right to me as does the length. The pants are supposed to be pulled up midway of thr pockets. The back looks a tad large but you do need some room to move. The collar is just laying down, giving it the impression of being larger. They look to be a good size to me. The only real noticeable thing is the gradation in color on the leather. The Pockets looks too big. Also the collar. Is this maybe an off the rack problem? OK the grain of the leather is very nice. But the jacket looks so big and long?
Are you being serious? That's why you buy a jacket that fits you. I'm sure if it didn't fit you correctly that you could exchange it for one that did. It seems all you have to do is find your right size. Your basing your entire assumption of the jacket over a couple of pics of how the jacket fits on someone else. Weird. It seems really screen accurate but if the jacket won't fit you right. You can hang it in the closet and you can say yeah finally I've got the ultimate SA jacket but it won't fit me really screen accurate.

Let's all remember that this is a prototype still in the pre-production phase. Like Todd said, he is not fully ready to start producting the jackets. So there for in terms of size, pattern, and leathers, it's good to wait until Todd is making them before judging it. When he is at 100% readiness and the jackets pattern, sizem\ and leather options are in stone. I have every issue to be concerned about size, my chest measures a 34 but I am not going to judge Todd's jacket until it is rolling off the line for real. What I can say again, is that I like the looks of the jacket so far and I look forward to the final production pattern.

orb,
i knew that this jacket wouldn't suit 100% of the members out there. everyone has their own taste and i respect your opinion as i know it is quite difficult to speak up against the grain of the thread. but if it were not for folks like you, i truly believe that this hobby would have not evolved as well as it has to date.
i thank you for your honest opinion. to each his own....if that was not the case, we'd all be indy clones
i invite all kinds of opinions about this jacket folks. feel free to state whatever you like. i like it. some others, not so much. KT doesn't like the thickness and scalloping of the pocket flaps nor does he prefer this type of leather. i like hearing what other people think even if its not in line with my thoughts.....i consider everyone's thoughts and opinions on all my topics of interest. you get better balance that way and it allows you to make smart purchasing decisions.
...oh oh, with that said i feel that strider's gonna open up a can o whoop-### on my jacket now (jk buddy!)

I just think that the jacket looks just a bit too big. But after watching ROTLA again I don't even think that a 80's fit is screen accurate. IMO only the sleeves were a bit tappered. The rest of the jacket does look a bit bulky to me. In the opening scene of Raiders the jacket does look very loose. So not really a tight fit. What pocket size does this jacket have and what size is this jacket? Will a smaller size jacket also have a bit smaller pockets and bigger jackets will have bigger pockets?

I'm with that. That grainy texture just doesn't look good to me. Won't be buying one of these so long as custom measurements are not available. Nice for you guys that have generic bodies that fit those measurements, but those of us who do not have bodies like that need something custom.Rixter wrote:...awooooo! May I have a false impression but the pockets on the last two pics from Indiana G does really look big. On the first pics it looks fine.
I have spent very much time comparing Indiana G's pics with this pics
