My Raiders lambtouch has arrived!!! Now with better Pictures

Post by orb »

Today I have received my new Raiders lambtouch from Wested. First I thought what? So fast? I just waited 20 days :)
The jacket is great! I got nearly everything I asked for! I just got no Rect. sliders. I got the D-Rings. But hey nothing big.
I believe I got the new SA Raiders specs. The jacket looks very very Raiders to me. The presstud fastener on my right Pocket won't close. Don't know why. May I can fix it later. Pictures will follow soon. Now I must go to work.
BIG BIG Thanks to Wested! :notworthy:

Much regards

Indiana G I really don't know why I haven't got the requested rect. sliders. But everytime I got a bit annoyd when I have ordered a wested jacket... too big pockets.. too long.. but the slider ain't a big deal for me. I can swoop them out and it's fine. Pictures will come in the next 90 minutes

Here two pics. Sorry for the quality. It's too dark now to go outside.

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/3729/jacketfi2.jpg

http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/3296/jacket2lp2.jpg

Here the exact specs of the jacket:
Height: 5ft. 10 (179cm)
Chest: 101cm (40inch)
Waist: 98cm
Neck: 42cm
Sleeve: 24.75 Inch
Jacket Size: 42 Long
Back Size: 26.25 Inch
Style: Raiders Jacket
Leather: Brown Lambtouch
Lining: Cotton Body-Satin Sleeves (rec)
Side Fastener: Rectangular Sliders
Additional Requests:
(80's Fit)
Extra Inch in Front
Extra Tappered Cuffs & Sleeves
Back elastic "action" pleat.
One Piece Under Arm gussets
Side Straps: X box stitching on the side straps
Small Raiders Collar
Small Raiders Pockets
Silver Nickel Zipper

I just haven't got the sliders. But I'm very happy that the rest hasn't been overlooked! This time I have also ordered it in 42 Long. I think a longer jacket fits me quite better and is much more Raiders imho.

Much regards

that looks just like my TOD but with bigger pockets. i requested DB lambskin and definitely got DB but i'm not exactly sure if they used lambskin as the leather was significantly lighter in weight than my AB lambskin that i bought last year. looking at yours, the colour and texture looks identical to what i have. it reaffirms my suspicion that my jacket is lambtouch instead of lambskin....do you notice how much lighter and smoother the leather is than a lambskin? i know you have a HH but i can't remember if you had a lambskin previous to that.

regardless, that fits you great orb. i'm happy that you're enjoying your new order :D

Yeah Indiana G I got a lambskin before but I gave it to my father (what a lucky guy  ) It's indeed not a dark brown lambskin. It could only be a lambtouch or the new distressed lambskin but I have clearly ordered a lambtouch. It smells much more and different than the lambskin I had before. The jacket also looks much more broken in then the authentic lambskin I had. And I really like the jacket a bit longer because in the raiders movie the sleeves looked almost the same length as the jacket. I also got the complete 80's fit. Also haven't any inside leather to avoid to snap the cotton in the zip.

with the 80s fit, are the armholes smaller/higher up? I think that's the main thing I dislike about my wested (the large armholes)

Dre I can't say exactly if the 80's fit makes the sleeves more narrow and the sleeve opening. I have stated that I want extra tappered cuffs & sleeves but I think I just got the standard arms. Because my Horsehide jacket has the same size. The sleeves got the same measurements but the horse drapes different and is also heavier! This could make look your sleeve opening quite big and the arms look much more bulky than with a light leather like lambskin or lambtouch. BTW if you don't like your sleeves just go to a leather shop and let them narrowed.

Wow, great looking jacket! Seems like a perfect fit. I'm considering ordering one myself next month with similar specs, but now I got curious, what does these two options mean?

Extra Tappered Cuffs & Sleeves
Back elastic "action" pleat.

but now I got curious, what does these two options mean?

Extra Tappered Cuffs & Sleeves
Back elastic "action" pleat.
Extra Tappered Cuffs and Sleeves means that the open end of each
sleeve, the part that is closest to your hand/wrist, is smaller around
than what Wested usually makes their sleeves.

Some people will ask for tappered cuffs/sleeves because the open ends
are quite large, and it can look kind of funny, especially if you have small
hands and wrists.

If you ask for tappered cuffs/sleeves, Wested will make your sleeves
and cuffs smaller around by about an inch, or an inch and a half at the
open end, and they will tapper the sleeve down to match this. It gives the
sleeves a much better, sleeker look, instead of just looking like an open
end of a barrel.

Back elastic "action" pleat is just that. Wested will add in elastic bands
between the lining and the leather, attached to the bi-swing back pleats.

What this does, is it will help keep the pleats from "ballooning" out,
a condtion usually called "bat wings" here.

If you don't have the elastic in the jacket, your pleats will eventually stick
out all the time, and not go back into the jacket like its supposed to do.

You can NOT see these elastic bands, and you can NOT usually feel them
either. They are inbetween the lining and the leather, and they are NOT
exposed or visible.

The Navy has used this same type of elastic bands on all their type G-1
jackets, as well as others that have bi-swings backs for many, many years.

All the US Wings Indy jackets have this elastic in them also.

Hope this helps. If it does not, just put the words "back elastic" in the
search tool on the top of this page, and you will find at least a hundred
posts on the subject.

I have back elastic on my jacket, I didn't realise I had it here for nearly 2 years! LOL. (My jacket was off the rack)

Once you know it's there you can "just" feel it out. My jacket only has one band of elastic.

I had wondered what the slight "gathers" of wrinkles were on either side, inside my action pleats were! (I thought they were the soft lamb belly leather! ;)) Now I know.

So, a silver zipper is offered by Wested now, when did that start? Is it nickel by chance? Is it a smaller size?

Great looking jacket Orb! Any closer pictures showing grain/texture maybe even compared to your horsehide and your father's goatskin? That would help other decide. Thanks.

Doug C I will compare this different leather on the weekend. Then I have more time to make some photos. My fathers jacket is a auth. lambskin. So I haven't any goat.

Very nice looking jacket.
So "lambtouch" is actually shaved cowhide? Is that correct? Do they get a normal thick cowhide and thin it by shaving it down?

My understanding is that it's from the underside belly region of the animal, just hope no one winds up with a nice set of udders on their back  !

That jacket looks awsome. Is the color as dark as it looks in your pics? Is it as dark as your lambskin? The sleeves "look" like they have more of a taper then my jacket. The drape is amazing. In the pics it looks soft and smooth, not like cowhide at all.

davyjones007 the pictures have been taken with flash. So it won't show the real color. During Daylight the jacket looks always dark brown and it's also a bit shiny. I believe if I wear the jacket often, the shine will be gone sometimes. But on a few spots it also looks very broken in. So I think this jacket will break in very fast. And the hide is very very thin. You will get a cold shower when the wind is blowing too much. Uhm the jacket isn't much tapered. It has the standard sized arms. But the sleeves does tapper alot. This is maybe the character of the lambtouch.
