I think it is an amazing hat... but I still think the bound-edge Aviator you made for me is better!!!

And that is one classy sweatband!! I have been admiring the one in my hat that Marc sent me. I guess this is the nicest sweatband I have ever seen-bar none. Of course, it costs Marc what some folks pay for their hat bodies!! I wish I could afford to use something like it. Fedora

Where's the hat you were going to send to me?
It is with all of the other orders guys are waiting for me to get made!!
You got any elves up your way that you can send down to give me a hand? I need at least a dozen of them. I hear some can even blink their eyes and produce a hat instantly. I need it!!!

And a word of advice to any future hatters who want to make and sell a handmade Indy fedora for 225.00 DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! You will be overwhelmed with orders and people will have to wait, and get ill in the process. But if you have the patience, you will own a pure beaver hat that is worth much more than you paid. What is happening to me is what has happened to other small hatters like John the western hatter. And even big hatters like Rand. If you want one of Rand's hats, you will wait a year for it. And he gets big bucks for his hats.

I have been told the only way to slow down the orders is to charge 500 bucks, which is the going rate for most pure beaver hats. I can't do it. And won't do it. So, I just have to get stressed out when folks holler for the hats they ordered from me LAST YEAR!

Most days I still love making these things. But some days, I could kick myself for ever starting!! Fedora

I have tried very hard not to bother you since I submitted my order, but I'm only on week 10. :D I suppose at week 20 I may get more antsy.
Seriously though, I figure the order is submitted, payment sent, I'll wait for you to let me know when you're ready to make my hat. Then I'll consider a second one. If you raise your price to $300, I'll still consider another.

It will be a cold day in.....well, I can't say that. But if I have to ever charge 300 I am getting out of hatmaking. I want to go down in price, not up!! To me, what I am charging is too much!! My intent is still to keep the prices as low as I can. For the guys that don't mind spending the extra money, buy a hat from Marc. My friend sells the finest Indy fedora ever made, with custom parts and bodies. But both hats being pure beaver, both will take a licking and keep on tickin'. I use bodies and parts readily available to all hatters. Marc has his stuff custom made. And that is costly for him to do so. But what you get from him is a one of a kind. That was Marc's intent when he started making the AB Deluxes. He wanted something special. He was successful in achieving his goal. With that said, if you can buy a pure beaver hat for less than I charge, jump on it!! Beaver felt sure ain't cheap, but a better real world Indy fedora doesn't exist, outside of pure beaver. Beaver felt is the stuff legends are made of. And until I started offering them, out of the price range for most fans. :D Fedora

Don't forget pure seal....
Actually, I think if seal fur was the ultimate, that critter would have been extinct along with the beavers in Europe. Nah, hundreds of years of hatting can't be wrong!! I will go with what the ancients have maintained on fur to be used for the best hats. And, it was always beaver. There was a fur trade in seal fur once upon a time, but it was not used for hats, as best that I can tell. It may have fallen into the novelty fur market for hats, like chinchilla. So there must be a reason why it did not gain prominence in hatmaking. What that reason is, I have no clue. Except Marc did mention the seal fur has no underfur. That may be the reason. Or perhaps it has no barbs on the fur fibers. Fedora
