Wested Cargo Pocket seam pop on new Cow LC

Post by Cowboy »

At the airport today, I placed my wallet in the right cargo pocket and to my dismay, the seam popped opposite of the handwarmer side. And no it is not because I have a big wallet! Seriously, has anyone encountered this? A guy should be able to put his hand in there without this happening.

I seem to remember Indiana had that problem awhile back. I can't find the thread now, though, so I don't know how he fixed it.

Rather than shipping it back to Wested to get it fixed, with all the cost that entails, maybe ask for some of their thread (if you are worried about getting a good match) and then getting it repaired in the US.

Then again you may not need to, it's only brown thread after all!

I say that because I heard stories of people sending jackets backwards and forwards, then being shocked that it costs so much to do it when a local seamstress can do it for less than it would cost to send it one way.

Don't get too upset these things do happen from time to time....I have a horsehide LC that did almost the same thing a little over a month ago....now keep in mind that my jacket is a couple of years old now and I have worn the daylights out of it -- but boy when I discovered the problem, it made me feel like crying. Then when I was on my way to take it to a local leather shop here in town, I stopped first at the cleaners to drop some pants off for dry cleaning. While there, I remembered that they have a seamstress on staff whom we (wife and I) have used many times and been very happy with the results so I inquired if they did leather repair and they said yes. Reluctantly, I left the jacket with them and they said it would be ready in five days....well, this stretched out to eight -- but the good news is it looks as good as new and they double checked and reinforced the other pocket as well -- all for $11.00! You would never know that it had any damage to it! So, just be certain of your repair source and likewise, I could not see sending back to Peter because of all the costs. I fully understand your frustration since your jacket is new, but sometimes strange things happen. It is still a very well made jacket and just has a small 'boo boo' for the moment! The seamstress at the cleaning establishment told me it was overall one of the finest pieces of leather work she had seen in a long time. Hope this helps a bit. Take good care. W>
