I think it looks quite nice - I really like the colour.

I'ts hard to see whether the sleeves are of the infamous three-piece construction. And I would really like to see the back.

This is a different protocol jacket though, it is supposed to be a Fonze/bomber Jacket. Notice the sleeves, they appear to be correct to a real indy jacket, the label is different too.

Hey Everybody,

I'm new in town, found your site last week when doing research on this same jacket before ordering. I wasn’t necessarily looking for an authentic style Indy jacket, just similar. They say it has an adjustable strap on a rear vent.?? It should arrive tomorrow (Wed.). When it does, I’ll get some pics and post them here Thursday.

Well, the Protocol “Sportsman’s Guide” jacket arrived yesterday. Here are some pics. It is indeed an Indy jacket, made by US Wings, but imported from China. The sleeves are the 3 piece type. The leather does seem a little thin, but then again, I’ve been wearing and am used to the new A2 horsehide. A nice brass YKK zipper. Over all I say, a good product for the price. I believe I’ll hang on to this one. It is an XL and it fits me about as perfect as it gets for off the shelf sizing. I’m 5’-10, 198#.

That is too #### funny! They just sewed over the USWings label.
Priceless.
That is indeed a nice jacket for the money. Any chance you could post some measurements , like sleeve and back length? Would help others(like me) figure their size.
Thanks,

The label was actually a sticker that peeled right off. I will get some measurements today during lunch.

Much obliged! :) The leather does really look nice on these, compared to the lambskin version I've seen. The lamb had more of a russet tone.

Just ordered one, the $16 they charged to ship it ten miles to my house was certainly no bargain!

I just talked with sportsman's guide about the shipping, they go by item price, not distance/weight. If you order a $20 rubber raincoat from them, the shipping will be half compared to what they charge for a $150 leather jacket.

Mention this when you call in the order, you have a good chance of getting them to lower the shipping cost. I ordered online, complained, and got a discount credit.

Just a note for you guys outside the US from the Sportsmans Guide:
We regret to inform you that at this time we do not ship orders overseas due to the complexities of banking laws, tariffs, duties, taxes, and currency conversions.

We would be happy to process your order if you can provide us with a US credit card and US address to ship your package to. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

THANK YOU

One time I bought something from US and because they sent it with UPS courrier I had to go to customs to clear it.

I end up paying about 100% in taxes and dues and had to waiting for about 3 hours to make all the formalities.

Got this from Sgt. Hack this morning:

quote:
"Hello M,
Protocol is a company that is going out of business and or has already gone out of business.. SO HO in China must have made some extra jackets and sold some of them out the back door... There really is not much we can do about that.. I think I would do business with a company that has been around and will be around and is a USA Company!!! I know by Federal TM Laws no one can sell our Trade Mark Jackets I.E. ( R ) ... Crazy business. Who is Sportsman Guide? They may be in deep trouble!!!

OOPS! I ratted Sportsman's Guide out. Does this mean I've bought some sort of stolen black market goods? :-s

Since that question has been asked, here's the PS:

quote:
"PS Any person buying a U S Wings Jacket may end up in Federal Court Just a little FYI!!! If we don't sell em You can not buy em. I would speak to a good Attorney!! Now if they take our label out.. Then that is another story!! "unquote

I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking Protocol thought that them just covering up the Wings label took care of this problem. Apparently that might not be the case. :?

You didn't 'rat out' anyone, but have simply uncovered something squirrelly going on here.

Wow - I was just about to order one earlier today, but they had run out of XL's. I guess I can consider myself lucky.

I just ordered a USW goatskin instead. I decided long ago that my first Indy jacket should be a goatskin - and with Wested having been out of goatskin for a while it had to be a USW.

Now why would they end up in court if they didn't know they actually purchased a U.S Wings jacket? It's quite clear from the pics that Protocol covered up the label and may no attempt to inform the purchaser the jacket wasn't made by them.

I could see the pics being used in court as evidence to prove something "shady" was going on though. U.S Wings has every right to be angery and should sue the @#$% out of them.

I'm so glad I saved up the cash and bought a Wested.

I believe he was referring to the 'Sportsman's Guide' company, not any person ordering the jacket.

As I understand it, it's required to REMOVE the label before selling under another name, not cover it up....so that's the problem is in this case.

You lot notice the strange caveat of :

"WARNING:This product cannot be shipped to California. Please check your State, County and City laws for restrictions before ordering this product."

Isn't US Wings in San Diego? Hmmmm......

Crazy business. Who is Sportsman Guide? They may be in deep trouble!!!
I find this quote funny. Sportsmans Guide has been in business over
31 years. As a matter of fact, they were in business 10 years BEFORE
US Wings was created!

They are a company that buys up stock from other companies that are
either going out of business, or that liquidate their stock.

Then, Sportsmans Guide sells the items at reduced prices.

It took me all of 20 seconds to find this information out by doing a very
simple search on the internet. But, I already knew about Sportsmans
Guide, as I have been a customer of theirs long before there was an
internet, and long before there was a US Wings.

Well, with that said and them having 31 years of experience under their belt, that makes it even stranger. The same information was found by internet search by Wings AFTER that email was sent as well.

They definitely should have known that it was against Federal Trademark laws to sell items, acquired through liquidated stock or not, under their banner bearing another companies name tag, and without that companies knowledge or approval. It was their responsibility to inspect each and every shipment they received via import from any company they deal with. How did this fall through the cracks, and since last October when they first started offering the Protocol Indy jacket?

It's kosher if the tag has been removed, but not covered as seen in these photos!

That makes no sense to me at all! I used to receive their catlogs for years. Can't recall if I ever BOUGHT anything, but they've always had some really neat stuff to offer.

Should prove interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Yeah, it appears that Sportsman's Guide bought up Protocol jackets when Protocol went out of business and didn't fully inspect the product for such illegalities. I hope they come out ok on this. I'm a current customer of theirs and sure would hate for them to go away......they have too much cool stuff.

I doubt they'll go anywhere. They're too big and too well established.

I bet they're more careful from now on, though.
