Actual Measurements ... favour needed

Post by JulianK »

I was wondering if someone can do me a huge favour.

I'm finally ready to place my order. However, I'd like to know the actual chest measurements of a size 42 jacket. I would like to compare this to an existing jacket (size 42) I have in order to get a better idea of what size to order. I'm actually a 43 but losing a bit of weight so I don't want to go too large.

So basically, if someone with a Wested size 42 can just place the jacket zipped, flat & face down and measure from arm pit to arm pit I would greatly appreciate it. Ok, I realize it might sound like a strange request but this is the final thing I need before putting down my order! I just want to make sure I cover all the bases.

Wow, what a ride!!! I've never put this much thought into an article of clothing in my life. Thanks guys. I probably would've done it without you anyway but I probably would've screwed up big time! You've all been a great help so far. :notworthy:

Cheers to everyone.

J.

Wow, that sounds a little small for an actual 42. I'm guessing you might be a little slimmer than 42.....hence the custom job. My existing (non-Indy) 42 measures 22 inches from seam to seam and it's cut very close to the body. IF a standard Wested 42 is actually 19" then I'd better be looking at a 44.

If your jacket only measures 19 across the chest, then your jacket is not
a size 42. The total chest measurement is only 38 inches! A person
with a 42 inch chest would never be able to fit into a jacket that only
measures 38 inches around. Something is not quite right there.

Wested's regular jackets have 4 inches of movement room incorporated
into each tagged size.

That means a size 42 jacket will measure 46 inches total around the
chest, or 23 inches armpit to armpit.

My size 44 Wested measures 24 inches from armpit to armpit, which
makes it 48 inches total, which is spot on for the 4 inches of movement
room.

The 80's fit has a slimmer fit, and usually incorporates about 2 to 3
inches of movement room round the chest. So a size 42 Wested in
the 80's fit will measure 44 to 45 inches around the chest, or 22 to
22.5 inches from armpit to armpit.

A jacket with an armpit to armpit of only 19 inches, or 38 total around
the chest would actually be a size 34 in the regular fit, or a size 36 in
the 80's fit.

sorry gents. i measured incorrectly. the armpit to armpit measurement is 23.5". i was measuring the distance between the top of the gussets. the seams at the gussets lead me astray. sorry for the confusion.

In that case G, the size makes a little more sense. Thanks.

size 42 Wested

Post by obi-cpo »

Hi,

Just to give you some more reassurance, I recently acquired a size 42 Wested from Ebay.

On my jacket the chest measurement from armpit to armpit is 23 1/2 inches exactly.

Michael

P.S. This is my first Wested. I got a pretty good deal on a brand new dark brown lamb, and the seller had it delivered within 3 days. Man, this really is a beautiful jacket!

Sounds like you got a great deal there Obi. I'm totally jealous! I've checked e-bay just for fun and I can't believe some of the cr*p they're selling claiming to be Indy jackets!
