I'm thinking of getting a leather tailor to alter my LC pockets by removing one inch from the top of my pocket and lowering the flap by one inch.
This would, theoretically, make the pocket 7 inches rather than 8 inches high.
My question is would there br a series of ugly holes where the flap had been previously stitched? Would you class this as distressing?
Has anyone tried this before?

Don't do it, CM. I had a broken zipper replaced in a leather jacket this winter. The tailor did a very good job, but the original stitch marks are there. They're small and concealed by the zipper flap, but if they were on the front of the jacket they'd be noticeable. Just my two cents here, but I think the eight inch Last Crusade pockets look quite nice.

CM remember that the LC pockets are supposed to be bigger than the other 2 movies. Had to get the diary in there!
Perhaps do some more digging around before you change anything. It may be possible for a tailor to make the pocket flaps more scalloped to look more LC. (See the Smithsonian jacket for reference). And of course the movie!

Thanks for the advice. I hate the 8 inch pockets, they look nothing like the LC movie version. But maybe I should leave them.
KT - my understanding is that it was the inside pocket wich was made larger to accommodate the diary. Either way - the LC screen pockets are 7 inches, not 8. The Smithsonian jacket (which I know well) looks very little like the Wested version I have. It's pockets every time.

I'm not sure where you got your figures from but I've held in my hands a tracing from the Smithsonian LC jacket and compared them to my 7 x 6 Raiders pockets. The Smithsonian LC pocket is definately wider and taller than mine. You are right about the inner pocket being made bigger for the diary but they didn't use it that way in the end in the film.CM wrote:Thanks for the advice. Indy keeps the Grail diary in his outside pocket in the movie.
HIs jacket was also larger in LC (44 I think), in fact everything looks bigger, collar, storm flap and pocket flaps. The pockets may well be slightly bigger on the LC Jacket. The flap certainly looks somewhat deeper.

He puts the diary in the front pocket as we see in the movie but then suddenly the diary disappears and reappears in the inside pocket.
I recall Peter saying he was asked to make the inside pocket roomier.
It is reasonable that the director wouldn't want something in the front pocket because it doesn't look good. (Put a book in your front pocket and walk around, you 'll see what I mean).
So I think that although he put it in the front pocket, he was then carrying it in the inside pocket but they didn't show that to us. (It's the same thing as when they never show the movie hero taking a @#$% in the WC).
(That is if he was carrying the jacket at all)
