Hey, any info on the whips for Indy IV?

Post by Whipcrack »

It has been several months since I have inquired. What do you know? What have you heard? Has anyone heard anything?

I called David Morgan before Christmas to get a signed copy of his new book. He said he was working extra hard to get ahead of his orders with the thought of Indy IV whip making taking up a significant amount of his time down the road. Mr. Morgan had not heard from anyone but said that in the past he has been contacted late and had to work around the clock to complete orders for Indy whips.

Now you know what I know, any news out there?

Thanks

Well if the rumors are true that production is starting this summer, then the prop department should be calling in their order for whips. But I highly doubt this recent rumor. The "Plan of Record" so far shows production to start May 2004 with a release in 2005. Given the timetable from the "Plan of Record", there is no reason for the prop department to place an order for whips this year. The reason being and this is a quote, "the whips tend to grow legs, and walk right out of the prop department".

But, I am planning on a visit in the short term, with the "people in the know". So I can give a readout at that time.

In reading through Dr. Jones' thread,

http://www.indygear.com/community/forum ... php?t=2657

one might wonder----if David Morgan does make the whips, then will the handle of the screen whip be shorter than those we saw in the 80's? Just a thought.

Indiana Joe, I would guess he would make the Raider's whips to current standards. Mr. Morgan said he was getting ahead of the game, building up inventory in anticipation of a possible Indy IV order. One woul think they would all be the same. It would make things simpler to have some whips ready.

Thanks for the feedback.

Sergei, the way Mr. Morgan spoke it sounded like he anticipates an order this year, not next. That would lead me to suspect a 2004 shooting date. Keep your ear to the ground, we need to know.

Thanks
Bill
