My first hat !

Post by Dream »

Hello !

This is my first post on this forum !

All apologies if it's not the right place .

I am planning to do an Indiana Jones group for French comics conventions. (see pics in my signature)

Well, normally, in those conventions the big thing is to dress as a manga/anime character, but I find it boring.

Since I began, I've only been as an US comic/films characters such as the Punisher, the Joker (Batman), Marv' (Sin City) and Christian (Moulin Rouge).

Now I am planning an Indy costume, more "Temple of Doom" like.
My Batman mate is planning to dress as Henry Jones (he is even making the diary because he's been inspired by this topic), our Nightwing is going to be Short Round and we might get a Marion RavenWood and other characters (my 11 year old niece wants to be a mini-Marion  )

Well, I nearly got everything for the first show (Feb 4) but I got a little problem.

Here's my hat.

Image

As you can see, it's got a thin leather ribbon with a buckle. YUCK !

I'd like to know how to sew a ribbon to make it more accurate, because I can't find any pic where Indy wears a hat like this one !

Thanks for the help !

Thanx for the welcome and the link ! ! I got the ribbon( twice the length, just in case), it got the right color to match the hat, and I am going to sew it this week end with my "dad" Henry Jones- struggling to find his suit- because he has the perfect copy of Henry's hat !!!!

Bonjour! Ca va?

You have some good advice and a good tutorial there to help you with your endeavour.

However if the desire ever takes you, it may interest you to know it is possible to purchase pretty accurate good quality fedoras for not that much money - and there is a lot of choice.

Hope you enjoy Club Obi Wan. Have fun!

Thanks a lot but the main goal in this kind of event is to wear as much self made things as possible, and according to the prices I saw (even the official Indiana Jones ones) I prefer to sew them myself

Maybe next time ?

Nice! I like what you've done with it. Looks like a Dorfman Pacific Indy now, which is in no way an insult.

Yeah, I'll second that! I've been wearin' hats for a long time, and I've tried to change a ribbon more than once, always with disasterous results. I just can't seem to get it right, no matter what I do! What you've done on your first try is simply AMAZING to a guy like me...you didn't just manage to change the ribbon, you made it look GREAT! Nice work!

Nice ribbon job indeed, if you used a real hat band you can crimp it with steam to get a tight fit on the crown. Be careful the hat will respond to steam as well.

You have a great pic of indy on the rope-bridge on your site, do you have it in a better resolution?

Great job,
K

Last pic of my hat. Next pics will be the ones of the show, in full gear.

Is it Father's hat behind me ? Yup.

And on the left ? Yes, it is.

(we are working on Batman vs. Two-Face with Sugar & Spice)

Do I spy a model of The Nautilus in one of your pics? :D That is a great job on the ribbon though, I wouldn't even dare to try and change one myself.

"Do I spy a model of The Nautilus in one of your pics?"
I thought to ask the same, but than I was sure. Nice Nautilus prop and beautiful what you´ve done out of your hat :!:

Is it possible for you to post a pic of the whole Nautilus model :?:

Two things :

- For the Nautilus models, I am not the one who makes these : here's the man. He is going to be Henry Jones in the group next month an he helped me with the hat and the whip holster.
