Jacket Leathers & weights

Post by rbxb »

Ok gang, lets talk Jacket brands, leathers & weights.

For reference:
I have a Wested Lamb, Goat, Lambtouch & another Lamb being made...
I also have a US Wings Cooper A2 in goat. If I had only one jacket for a real life adventure desiring protection from the elements, ie road rash, knife fights, weather, jumpimg across pits, etc, I'd grab the A2 goat. ( mean like, If I knew I was gonna be thrown into or thru a barb wire fence ( you know, the one between Kansas & the North Pole) I'd trust it.
But, its heavier than any of my Westeds & no drape and stiff as a board.
I've seen ITG's Cowhide & it looks great! but I remember it being kinda heavy for all seasons.
i choose Lamb for the drape & for normal use it's plenty tuff, I tend to think of it as one would an old levis blue jean jacket but with more class ( being leather).
For a short time I had a Disney / Indy. It was well built but extremely heavy!
Here's what I think I know & please , those of you who have different leathers, feel free to correct me

considering weight only

heaviest to lightest
1) Horse
2) Cow
3) Goat
4) Lambtouch
4 1/2) Kangaroo
5) Lamb
I have considerable experience with horses but none dead....
How far off am I on my appraisal.
What about brands. i e :
Lets take a cowhide for instance
which brand is the lightest & most pliable in Cowhide?
US Wings, Flightsuits, Wested????

Thanks

I have no argument with the order of your listed hides. I'd add kangaroo and place it between lambtouch and lamb. It is an option from U. S. Wings.

I would vote most pliable cowhide to be Wings VIP cowhide myself. I have never owned a 'light' cowhide jacket from any maker, and I've owned them from Wings and Wested.

Michaelson,
Thanks . You have become "the go-to guy" for most INDY matters
I purposely left the ROO out as I have zero exposure to a live one or a hide. I'll stick it in as you suggest & we'll see what it'll stir up..

I've only seen the one _ had when I was out at one of the QM summits. It was suprisingly light in physical weight, but RED in color.

Not to many of them are hanging in closets of our group that I'm aware of...but still, it's out there and available.
