Time for a do-over with my Wested jacket

Post by davefelker »

Well I just put my month old LC jacket on ebay and as soon as it sells I'm ordering a new Raiders jacket. I cannot decide on whether I should get the authentic brown lambskin or the distressed cowhide though :-k . In any case I now have very accurate measurements but I am not looking forward to another wait  . Oh well, I guess I can look at pics of all the jackets you guys own and drool at my computer  . What do you guys think though, lambskin or distressed cowhide?

I think on my next wested order (yes I just got one today and am preparing for the next one) I am going to go with the predisstressed hide.

Oh and I know how you feel about that wait time, I ordered mine Oct 26 and just got it today...but well worth the wait.

the distressed leather has always been too light in color for my taste. the guys that treat them and darken them up however do have awesome looking jackets....but that takes alot of elbow grease from what i've heard.

if you're willing to put the work in, i would go with the predistressed. i prefer a new jacket to look new and have it age with you without having to prep its appearance any further. my 2 cents.

It took me all of 20 minutes to apply a complete coat of Pecards leather jell to my pre-distressed clearance cowhide Wings, and I didn't even break a sweat.

Yep. Now THAT would have taken a TON of effort and elbow grease, as Letaps is a water based foam, and has to be applied with a dry sponge then buffed in after it dried.

He also shifted to Pecards after the Letaps application didn't meet with his approval in the final appearance.

that dark predistressed hide on billy3ci's dr.who jacket looks awesome. from what i can recall it is a black predistressed cow (or was i mistaken?)....nonetheless, i think that would look great in an indyjacket......hey...er.....i mean, that would look really, really bad. don't order a wested in that dave....it'll look stupid.

*** note to self: PM peter and have him make indy jacket in the dr. who jacket leather ***

Man that Dr. Who jacket did look good in the predistressed hide, thanks Indiana G  . I wonder what the predistressed hide would look like with the brown tint pecards rather than the regular? :-k

Personally, I'd go with lamb, and let it distress naturally.

I was told by Wested that the leather from the Who jacket is the same as the leather on the Indy jacket - ie the same predist.cowhide.

I'd try and get a sample of the pre-distressed cowhide before you order. It really is a very different leather to the others, the surface is heavily treated and is cracked all over. It is not to some people's taste.

The Wested Wolverine style jacket is made from predistressed cowhide.

Do you guys think the brown tinted pecards will not only darken the distressed cowhide but make it look less distressed?

It won't hurt, but just remember that it's only a tint, not a dye or polish. It's the ingredients IN Pecards that soaks into the dry under hide and darkens it to hide the distressing. The tint will help a bit.
