4-tone whip handle

Here's a whip handle I made this past weekend. I'd made the whip itself two months ago to use to set a record for the most stockwhip cracks in a minute, but I didn't have time to make a fancy handle for it. Now that I've made my attempts for the record (highest number was 272 cracks in a minute), I thought I'd take the time to make a nice handle.

The colors are brandy, saddle tan, whiskey, and natural. If you look at the second pic you can see all the colors: natural tan diamonds with brandy center, whiskey diamonds with saddle tan center, brandy diamonds with whiskey center, and saddle tan diamonds with natural tan center.

I used 24 strands, so 6 strands of each color.

Here's another pic just for fun. I've got fire whips, and I do a little rope spinning, so I thought it'd be fun to have a fire rope. Fire ropes are hot! It's kind of like swinging around a camp fire with your hand.

Very cool-looking design, Adam. Is that 272 now the unofficial record?

Hi Steve,

Yeah, I'd say 272 is the most cracks in a minute I've ever heard of anyone doing, bullwhip stockwhip or anything else. The people there counted 280. On the tape it was hard to count because the cracks were so fast. I counted 5 times using the video and I got numbers between 272 and 279, so I'm going with the lower number.

I also did an attempt on a local TV show and did 260 cracks in a minute with this stockwhip. I have complete sets of documentation for both sets to send to Guinness, so I plan to send both sets, one being a back-up. So hopefully one will be made an official record.

With the possible number of cracks in a minute, I think there must be some physical limitations in how fast a person can move his arm, so these records will only ever get so high. In practice I did 80 cracks in 15 seconds, but I think that pace would be impossible for a whole minute.

I can understand what you mean, Adam. Over 300 cracks in a minute would be blurring, lol. Almost seems like there should be a term for that physical limitation, kinda like terminal velocity for a falling object. Even for whipcracking, there has to be a point of physical performance.
Anyway, 272 is pretty fast~ good luck on the record recognition!

Just wanted to add to this post that I got the certificate from Guinness today certifying the 272 cracks in a minute as an official record.

Very impressive. For some reason, you don't see whips that are 4 colors. Mostly just 1 or 2. Keep up the spectacular work. You're for surely on the "must buy" list.
