Since PETA got involved, Michaelson has had to resort to wearing a blindfold and searching for acorns himself, while pampered pigs wallow in a nearby PETA-approved mudhole and watch the show!

Well, if you look at the sizes listed on the site, they aren't listed in traditional sizes. It says 10-M or 10 H-M. I mean, what is that? That's why I was asking.

The "M" stands for men’s, and the "H" means half as in 10 1/2. It's on their sizing page.

Have your foot measured (if your not sure), and order that size. It's that simple; don't try to second guess their size chart.

My foot measured a 10 1/2, I ordered a 10 1/2 (10H). They fit perfectly. Piece of cake. Don’t make it more difficult than it is. These don’t require as much information as the Aldens.

FYI: I went to a J.Crew store in the mall and the sales guy told me that they don't carry men's shoes at all in (this particular) store, so I asked how would I order these and he told me that they could order them into the store for me and if they don't fit, they can re-order them at no charge. Also, all of you who are students, ask your nearest J Crew salesperson about a (10%) discount if you order....that's what this guy told me. Depending on the salesperson, you may need a student ID and you could save yourself at least 10%. That's what the guy told me here, so I'd imagine that this would be a policy nationwide. Now I'm REALLY waiting for the Man With the Bag!

I've had these boots for a few weeks now. The color is very good, in my opinion. Right out of the box they're very close to what my year-old Aldens are after many application of Pecard's. They're a bit shiny at first, but with normal wear around my cabin and around town, they're getting a better, more lived-in look. They're very comfortable. One of the main reasons I bought these even though I already had a pair of Alden's is the sole. I know the soles of the J Crew boots aren't screen accurate, but they're also not in the least bit slippery -- much better grip not only on hills, etc., but also on slick/wet pavement. And I actually think they look a little better with jeans than the Aldens.

Well...for 69$ I couldn't resist....unfortunately they're on backorder until sometime in January. Ah well...wouldn't be indygear if there wasn't some wait time to build up the anticipation!

I saw these in the store, and they looked cheap. I had aldens on my feet, and I decided to just put that money towards a future aldens purchase.

You get what you pay for.

I've had a pair now for awhile. I wear them a lot, and they're very comfortable -- don't seem cheap at all to me. I bought them before the price cut, and still feel I got my money's worth.

Wow...what a sale!

I'm down in Thunder Bay, looking for a new house and haven't been on the forum until today. I'm sure glad I popped in because...I ordered mine tonight! Sure they won't ship until the middle of next month but who cares, I'm wearin Sorels due to the foot of snow we got today.

Anyway..if my Ruggeds are any indication, these boots aught to wear like steel. I've worn mine for over 2-3 years and have been very happy. I'm sort of sad at saying good-bye

. I must be nuts.

I recieved my about a week or two ago and they are great boots. There real durable and comfortable. It was worth 158 bucks. I'm sorry if I affend anybody but I think there a lot nicer than Aldens.

It appears that J. Crew is SOLD OUT of these for the time being. Luckily for me, someone here had a sale up on ebay for MY EXACT SIZE for 110$, and MY GIRLFRIEND bought 'em for me!!

After owning them for a long time now, I can give a fair report. I like them, I find them comfortable. I replaced the laces, because I thought the original laces looked ridiculous.

My big complaint is the leather piece on the instep of the sole. It does not hold up well to water. Aka, it starts to look really ratty after a while, in relation to the rest of the sole.

But, I do like them.

Nice find, Writeknife! Any chance of some pics? Or maybe even a good comparison thread between the J. Crews and the Carolinas?

I've got a pair of Carolinas myself and I'm curious to see how these J/ Crews stack up. Looks wise (based on the pics I've seen of the Crews) they look very similar to the Carolinas, although I can see some differences between the two. I guess I'm just curious as to what makes them "better and more authentic" than the Carolinas. After all, if the differences are that drastic between them, I might just have to hunt down a pair of these Crews for myself.

Sorry, I won't have time to post pics for awhile it is a busy time at work.

There are many pictures posted of both types of boots and you can find them if you wish. I will try and give a decent comparison.

First off, my Carolinas are the "Commander" model, I should have noted that in my first post.

Color: The JC boots are a much nicer tone of reddish brown that I believe will distress or weather to a great color, they are also closer to the newer Alden color. My Carolinas are a dark brown already.

Stitching: The stitching on the JC boots are of a better quality (stronger) thread. The contrasting off white stitching also looks better as well. There is also a nice contrasting brown stitching added on the uppers that complements the boot color. The Carolinas are completely of a darker brown and seemingly lighter thread.

Soles: They both have the black slip resistant type of sole, however, the Carolinas have a wider sole (from the top view) which makes them look bulkier. There is also a cord of round plastic all the way around the top of the sole that makes them look cheap. The soles and heels are similar in thickness from the side view.

Leather: The quality of the leather on the Carolinas do not look and feel as nice as the JC boots which are Italian leather. This could be in part to the color of the boots as noted above.

Toe area: The stitching around the top of the toes on the Carolinas are just that...stitching. The stitching on the JC boots are there to stitch the toe piece to the upper, again more like Aldens.

General: The Carolinas have a small black rivet at the seam edge below the bottom eyelets. The JC boots have no rivets.

Sizing: As noted in the original post the JC boots tend to run a 1/2 size larger and the Carolinas run truer to size. Although I used a padded insole for both pair of boots.

That's about as much as I can think of right now. I would be glad to answer any specific question you may have though.

Again, these are just my opinions about the two specific boots that I have had. I paid about $14 for my Carolinas and $49 for my JC and I feel the JC's are a much better buy.

My Carolinas have served me well, but these new JCrew boots are much closer to being a true Indy boot. I may even try to have them re-soled in leather when these soles wear out.
