Post by Texas Raider »

Can someone help me locate the spec sheet for the movie whip that Sergei made up? It is drawn up measurements of the Raiders whip. My laptop crashed and I lost A LOT! I need this pic in a hurry.

Thanks! TR

Here is what he posted long, long time ago.

Hope it´s what Your are looking for.
HERE IS A DESCRIPTION OF THIS FAMOUS MOVIE WHIP: ---- ---- The whip itself is a (heavier internally weighted handle and thong than usual) medium brown whip made by David Morgan for the film. ----- It was used ONLY in the making of the film "Raiders of the Lost Ark" by Harrison Ford and his whip coach. It has been stored and never cracked or used in any way since 1981 ----- The whip thong (the body of the whip) is a substantial 95" (7ft, 11 inches.) to the keeper (knot where the whip is braided onto the stiff, braided handle). The handle is exactly 8" of that length. The White Latigo Fall adds another 27 1/2" and the Black Nylon Popper adds another 7 3/8". All totaled, the overall length of this whip (including all parts) is 10' 9 7/8" (129 7/8"). The wrist strap is 5 7/8" plus a leather loop at the base of the strap as shown in the analysis photos below. ----- The whip has been reviewed and confirmed by experts and the story of its acquisition has been verified. This analysis and history is in the next section of text below ----- (See the many photos below! You can click on the photos and they will expand to full screen size. Click on the big photo, and it will return you to the ad!)
HERE IS THE HISTORY OF THIS FAMOUS MOVIE WHIP: ----- This whip lot includes 5 additional pieces of provenance and other items related to it = 1) A signed Certificate of Authenticity by Walt "Sergei" Rybinski - the staff expert on Bullwhips for the equipment and Indiana Jones Movie company "Indygear" who analyzed this whip in March 2002. – 2) A Signed Letter from Mr. Rybinski to Mark Allen dated Novenber 28th, 2003, that confirms the C of A and his review of the whip – 3) A Signed Letter from Mark Allen describing the provenance and acquisition of this whip - on his Mark Allen Productions stationary. – 4) A seven page color print-out of the article that Mr. Rybinski wrote and published in 2002 detailing his examination, measurements, screen comparisons, photos and authentication of this original Raiders of the Lost Ark Movie Whip – 5) A originally signed photograph of Harrison Ford with whip at the ready - from the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark - (appears to be a different but VERY similar whip in that photo) ----- THE LETTER FROM MARK ALLEN TELLS THE STORY WELL - Here is the text of that letter (verbatim) = "INDY WHIP - FROM: MARK ALLEN – Running Western Stage Props is an everyday adventure. Besides selling trick roping, shooting and riding supplies, we have become the leader in whip sales. One day about 10 years ago a famous accomplished trick rider who just retired came into my office. She introduces herself as Faye Snyder. She was training horses just outside of Las Vegas and wanted to sell her trick riding saddle. Also in the trunk of her car was a box of Bullwhips. There were two sets of Leonard Wheatly whips in white and a David Morgan Indy Whip. After haggling over the price like 2 old horse traders she used the Indy whip as leverage to get a higher price. She told me it wasn't just an Indy whip - it was used in the First Indy Movie. I was skeptical at first until she told me the story. Faye was a long time friend of the Randall family. She learned a great deal from Glen Randall Sr. who spent a lifetime training Hollywood horses, Trigger, Disney Horses and many of the famous cowboy horses. Faye had also known Glen Randall Jr. and his brother Corky for many years. She told me that one day she was visiting and Glen Randall Jr. presented her with a whip he had in a box. There was more than one on the box. He told her that the whip was one of the 8fts. That was used in the first Indy Movie. (Glen Randall Jr. was the second unit director on all 3 Indy Movies. It was his job to order the whips from David Morgan). After she told me this I was still skeptical. Maybe it was just a story or who knew... I took a chance and purchased the lot. A few years later Glen Randall Sr. passed away. I had some video footage I shot of him for a video production we did called "Horseplay". I called Glen Randall Jr. to ask if he would like a copy of this tape for himself and his brother. He said he would and I sent it to him. While I was on the phone I took the opportunity to talk to him about the whip. He confirmed that it was one of the 8fters that he had purchased from David Morgan for the first Indy Movie. That he had given one of them to Faye and that was what she told me was real. The history of the whip, the confirmation by Glen Randall Jr. and the inspection by Walt Rybinski has allowed me to confirm that this whip is authentic. - (signed) Mark Allen ----- THE LETTER FROM WALT RYBINSKI READS AS FOLLOWS (dated November 28th, 2003) = "Dear Mark, It is a pleasure to send you two items for your records that in my opinion authenticates in your possession, the David Morgan Bullwhip that was used in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". I have printed a Certificate of Authenticity that states the grant and methods used for the grant. In addition, I have attached an article that I posted at the Indygear website that documents my detailed inspection of this whip. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Sincerely, (signed) Walt "Sergei" Rybinski - Indygear Staff Member & Expert on Bullwhips. ----- THE CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY FROM INDYGEAR READS AS FOLLOWS = CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY IS HEREBY GRANTED TO: MARL ALLEN'S INDIANA JONES RAIDERS WHIP – I hereby grant such authenticity by the best of my abilities. My methods consisted of 1) measurements from the actual whip compared to screen grabs from the motion picture - " Raiders of the Lost Ark " – 2) Measurements of other David Morgan whips during the same period – 3) Other letters and facts that Mark Allen has provided me and were verifies by me. - Granted March 2002 - (Signed) Walt "Segei" Rybinski - Indygear - Staff Member and Expert on Bullwhips ----- THE SEVEN PAGE ARTICLE PUBLISHED WITH COLOR PHOTOS OF THIS WHIP IS ALSO INCLUDED. It explains in much greater detail how the measurements and unusual weighting of this whip are precise and were known to Walt before he used his caliper to confirm the dimensions of the Mark Allen Raiders whip. It also confirms that Faye Snyder was Glenn Randall Jr's next door neighbor in Santa Clarita at the time and many other pertinent facts PLUS six large color photos of this whip during his inspection that (as you can see in our many photos below) match up perfectly with this whip today. ------ PLUS Mark has included an original Signed photo of Harrison Ford from the Raiders of the Lost Ark film (with his older signature style) that he had in his immense archive of star signed photos.
Best regards

I think TR is looking for a copy of the drawing that Sergei made of the handle of this whip. I know Sergei originally posted this drawing and a set of pics of the whip that Mark Allen had and then sold, but they are no longer available on his original post.

Is there anyone that has the drawing and pics that could re-post them? I have a copy of the drawing that I printed off a while back, but it's not on my computer.
