Wested Horsehide -- Anyone have any recent pics?

Post by Slick »

Has anyone out there ordered a Wested HH jacket recently and have any pics they can post?

I keep thinking I'll wait for the goatskin, but, as I keep reading previous posts from individuals who have a Wested HH and how much they enjoy it.....it's making me more interested (in HH).

Also, I understand it is a heavier jacket, but does this mean I would be sweating in it if I was outside and the temperature was, for example, 60 degrees?

Lastly, as far as special requests, does it make a difference (with this type of leather) of how the collar, or pockets will appear (refering to wether or not, I should go for the smaller "Raiders" collar and smaller "Raiders" pockets)?

Hello Slick!

Here some pictures of my HH Raiders Jacket. I've made the pics on the day I got the jacket. This was two month ago. Now the horse is really starting to show some very nice patina. There are also more wrinkles now in the sleeves.
You can't go wrong if you order a horse from wested.
I was really much accustomed to the wested lambskin and after wearing the horse for the first time I was really shocked how heavy the hh is.
But if you just wear it you will forget that you're wearing a bit more on your shoulders :)

Thanks for the pics Orb!

What is the color of the leather? Is it Dark Brown?

Also, did you request the smaller raiders collar & pockets on your jacket?, or are those the standard (on your jacket)?

The HH isn't dark as the db lambskin. It's a bit reddish under sunlight. It looks always different under different lights. Great color!
I have requested the smaller collar & pockets but can't say I got it.
But there are too much other threads here about the collar and pocket issue
I think the pockets and collar must fit the size of the jacket. Too oversized looks quite strange imho.

Orb,

what about how warm the jacket is.

Since you already have a lambskin jacket, do you find that the HH is something you can only wear in cooler weather?

We had 25 degree Celsius (77 degree Fahrenheit) two month ago and I hadn't any problems with the jacket. No sweat. If you wearing some sweater beneath then it could get quite warm. But I always only wearing a t-shirt under the jacket. If you really want to use it in very cold climates then get the jacket a bit larger. I feel very snugged when I wear something thicker then a t-shirt underneath. Well I got the 80's fit. I knew before it will be snug :D

Man,that is a nice jacket Orb! 8) ,perfect fit too,I have 3 vintage horsehides which I love and I was seriously considering the Wested horsehide for my next Indy..only thing that puts me off is the drape-can I ask,how does yours drape and is it stiff at all?,now that you've had it for a while is it softening up?,does it make a good Raiders jacket?

Here's some pics of mine when it was newer:

Its got a bit more weathering now, the sleeves have wrinkled nicely and it is very soft. I love it. As I've said many times before, the HH is worth it. Its a unique offering from Wested that sets it apart from the norm. Its is a bit stiff when new. It doesn't drape like the lamb does from what I have seen, but after some wear it softens up nicely. And the color is awesome.

Well...I finally made my decision.....I'm going with the horsehide.

My order is in....and I can't wait to receive it.

Thanks, again, for all the information provided by my fellow COW members, especially, Orb and Bjones, for the info and pics.

The wait begins......
