I've never heard of this hat or this company. The website certainly seems to be saying that this guy actually made hats for TOD. Anyone else heard about this before?

Yeah, this has been discussed several times before. Here's a couple links.

Yep, they've been discussed on and off over the years. I don't know of anyone who has one of these, though. I also don't know what sort of credibility they have in regard to their claim of making hats for Temple of Doom. Seems to me like once word got out that there were supposedly other hats used in the filming of ToD aside from HJ, hatmakers all over the place started popping up out of the woodwork to claim that they made hats for the movie.

We all know HJ's were used in all three films, but in ToD, according to some sources, Stetsons were also used in a few scenes. I've heard the Stetson involvement discussed before, I think Michaelson or Fedora can shed more light on this. I believe there was some sort of contract to produce hats for the public or something, and part of the deal was to have a Stetson in the film...or something???

Then you have the James Lock Hatters, who claim that Ford bought a hat while filming Raiders in London, and that this hat may have been used in one of the films. I believe the model Ford supposedly bought was the "Chelsea", though it's been years since I first heard all of this, so I could wrong.

Don't forget the custom hatter, Gary White, who makes the following claim on his website:
For over ten years, Gary has crafted custom hats for notable stars and movies:
Below this is a picture of Ford from ToD, wearing the "bridge" hat and under the pic is the name "Indiana Jones".

Then add in Barons and the waters just muddy up even more from there. :?

Nevermind the fact that Dorfman Pacific also claims to be "THE" hat.

Hi Guys! I own two Clifhangers! One brown the other in a dark grey. They are the utlimate Tod/lLC hats outside of HJ's. I don't know if they made any for TOD, or not, but looking at the hat in the plane and the ones I have, it is certainly possible. Great hats -- though, I have some that are better. But, I do like these. Just my view. W>

Thank you for chiming in, Mr. Conly! I know there was a pic of you in your LC styled Cliffhanger in another thread, but it seems to have gone the way of the dodo. Any chance of putting that back up for us to see?

I can vouch for Baron's that they did supply hats for TOD - Mark managed to dig up the original purchase order and I have seen it. Curious thing - they ordered hats in "pecan" color. They have no idea what use the hats were put to or if they were used at all. This all happened long before the current owner was on the scene.

I tend to recall Stetson referred to their original TofD color as being 'pecan' too. Same with the original 'Indy' Miller.
I wonder if it was just a popular color at the time?
:-k

Todd:

Thanks for the info. So, the Baron's site isn't necessarily inaccurate, though we don't know if any of the company's hats ended up on Ford or his stunt doubles. But it appears the current owner had nothing to do with it.

True. The hats might have been for a special purpose - effects shot, dummies, etc. After the hats are delivered Edie Baron was "out of the loop". He did have a photo of himself taken while he was making the hat, though.

Mark (current owner) has been asked about that hat over and over. I think he's caved to fan pressure (just a little) to tell fans what they want to hear. "Did you make a hat for FORD? Did you make a hat for FORD?" "I don't know" isn't a very exciting answer.

He's done thousands of movie hat, but that's the only one anyone cares about.
