My "Vintage" DP

Post by Indiana Kev »

I mentioned a few weeks ago that my 1990/91ish Disney DP hat the front to back center dent instead of the tear drop crown. I thought it would be fun to post a few pics of the old school DP. This was my first piece of Indy Gear and I wore the heck out of it...enjoy.

I think Erri-Wan used to have a smiliar hat to this. That hat looks like it's fabric more than it does wool or fur felt.

Wow! Now that's an interesting hat. I've never seen a DP that looked like that before. What kind of material is that hat made out of. It looks almost like a canvas DP that I picked up in my pre-internet days on one of my trips to the IJ outpost at Dinsey World. The only differences are the color of the hat (mine was tan with a tan/brown ribbon), the bow (mine was more like the current crop of DP bows) and the size of the brim, which I swear was over 2 1/2 inches. Otherwise it was very similar construction, being sewn into shape rather than blocked as a single piece. If I recall, DP actually had at least a few different types of Indy style hats for sale, aside from the standard "official" hat, with the teardrop crown. I actually had another wool-felt DP that had the center dent, but it was sort of an olive green with a tan ribbon and it had a brim that I think is called an underwelt (not bound with ribbon but folded and sewn back into itself). Funny that DP obviously had the capacity to churn out center dent hats, but chose the teardrop for the "official" version... :?

It really is an interesting hat. I am pretty sure that the hat says it is 100% wool, but the inside of the hat is not wool, it is some type of material. It's sad that the center dent was droped for the tear drop.

Kev, thanks for posting these pics. :D It's interesting to see an older 'Indy' hat.
