Loden

Post by PLATON »

I hear you have to wait a hundred years if you order an AB so had to look at some quicker options and buy the AB later.

I thought a good start would be the Akubra Fed Deluxe. I visit hatsdirect site (because akubra site doesn't have it) and see that the color they have it available is "Loden"

What is this loden? Never heard of it.
If if buy I'll get the real deal or some color that won't even be gray **ducks*

Thanks for the help guys.

Loden, is the brown Federation. It's a very close match
to the indiana jones hat.

Yeah, Loden, as far as I know, is the only color the Fed Deluxe comes in. It's more of a true brown than the color of the regular federation with a slight reddish tint in certain light. For reference, my Fed Deluxe in the color Loden subjected to various lighting conditions:

These pics are all of the same hat, taken over the course of the 3+ years I've had it. The hat only seems to look gray under very specific lighting or if you take a pic of the hat with the flash on while the hat is dirty, see below:

Hope this helps.

I just ordered one today (heaven help me...another hat). It is supposed to be a more "ordinary" medium brown color than the dark grayish brown "mid-brown" of the standard Federation. Now, why on earth they call it "Loden" is beyond me. :-k Loden is a shade of green!!!

"Tawny Fawn"...now there's a name for a color!!! As someone on another board said, it sounds like the name of a stripper....er, uh, a "dancer".

You guys won't be disappointed with these hats. I've seen them in person and they're very nice. Sometimes my regular federation looks like it's a little green (just when the sun starts to go down and the light outside is irregular). The red undertone will be nice.

Actually in German "Loden" is just an old fashioned word for "wool-felt".
I wonder why they call their hat-colour like that. :-k

Maybe the word means something totally different in another language, in Swahili for exmaple ...

The "cheaper" versions, yes. But there's also a rabbitfelt version.
