Protocol Indy Jacket - New China Made Indy Jacket?
Hello,
First, let me thank you all for your informative posts. I'm a big fan of Indiana Jones, and have been wanting to get a new leather jacket for awhile. I'm a salesman, and often go from my heated car, through a cold parking lot, to a heated customer site. I wanted a jacket to take the edge off the cold, but not so warm that I need to whip it off as soon as I walk into the customer. Looking good is also important. I've been lurking for awhile, learning about my Indy Jacket options. I'm currently leaning towards a Wested Last Crusade in Authentic Brown with gussets and cotton/acetate lining (think I got all that right?)
I registered because I saw something interesting and wanted the group's opinion. Sportsmansguide is advertising an Indy jacket made by Protocol. Google search finds no other hits for this jacket. Only reference to a company named Protocol I can find is that JCPenney sells leather luggage made by them. What do you all think of this for a jacket under $200 (if you're a member)?
Here's the URL with a zoomable image for checking out details:

This Lambskin Jacket is the calling card of a clandestine adventurer. Just add your own bullwhip and .455 Webley. 100% antiqued lambskin leather feels so soft and supple, you'd swear it was a veteran of much international intrigue.
Smooth 50/50 nylon / acetate lining
Fold-down point collar
Full zipper with outer storm flap
Waist snap-closure patch pockets with piggybacked handwarmer pockets
Right interior patch security pocket
Straight hem, cuffs
Hand spot clean only.
Imported.

The Jacket looks nice (though I'm not fond of the collar). I haven't had any bad experiences with the Sportsman's Guide, but leather is something I'd rather see in person or have solid word-of-mouth on. That's a personal hang-up, though. My guess, based on the fact that the price isn't insanely low, is that the jacket will be a good one. But I'd still rather get a tried and true Wested.

FYI, just as mentioned above, Wings is selling a like jacket, $149, and they do have goatskin in the list.

It’s more fun to wait up in anticipation of ordering, trying hard not to fall asleep.
That, or your laying there awake, hundreds of questions for Peter and all your order info swimming around in your head. Since your already awake with no chance of falling asleep, you might as well call and place your order. At least you’ll be able to get a couple hours rest.

KT, I have to agree w/ Serial Hero on this...it's like staying up for midnight on New Year's Eve. If you know you could call tomorrow...or just stay up a little longer...well, I couldn't sleep knowing that. And I didn't, that's why I called them in the wee hours of the morning here too. Far too giddy to sleep.

Notice the construction of the sleeves. The Protocol has the infamous 3 piece that has been discussed as being on some of the Wings jackets. The Wings clearance Chinese jacket, on the other hand, does not.
My vintage cowhide jacket is constructed like the second photo.
As you can see, some of the assumptions that have been made about these clearance jackets and the way they are made have been incorrect.
Regards! Michaelson

Received New Protocol Jacket Today
Hello,
I just received my new Protocol jacket today. I picked it up on Ebay for $114.00 from Sportsman Guide Outlet. It looks just like the pics that G-Mann posted except the color and texture appear closer to his US Wings version. The cleaning instructions tag on the inside all refer to US Wings ("US Wings" was crossed out with grey marker but still visible) and from the looks it appears that the Protocol Tag is sewn over a US Wings tag also.
I must say that the jacket is heavier than I thought for a lambskin. It's certainly weighs more than my goatskin A-2. Maybe it's not lambskin (all the tag says is 100% genuine leather).
Anyway, I don't think I did too bad for spending only $114.00.
Thanks.

I'll try to post some pics tonight.
For now I copied Texas Raider's measurements from his earlier post on a US Wings Clearance jacket because my "Protocol" size Large approximates those almost exactly.
I just don't know about all the size differences out there these days. Mediums are large, Large are mediums, Large are XL. This jacket is just to hold me over while I save for a Wested and have a tailor fit.
Armpit seam to armpit seam- 25 inches
Shoulder seam to cuff- 24 inches (maybe 24 1/8 max)
Back length, from BASE of collar stand to bottom hem- 26 inches
