My freind recently aquired an 8foot indy from Ben Scott, and I have to say it is one H*ll of a whip! He made it exactly how we wanted it. It looks great and the color is great too. Since there is snow in CT. right now and with wind chill the temp is 2°F we didn't get a chance to crack it , but the plaiting looked good and weight was perfect so I'm sure it would crack excelent. He is definetly worth looking into ......

I would be interested in your opinion Whiper Jones. I have 5 Joe Strains as well (out of 21 total whips). I actually test cracked a Ben Scott whip at last year's WWAC convention in Las Vegas. I couldn't really make an assessment due to the floor at the convention. The floor was so slippery, the whip kept on getting tangled. Very frustrating.....Whiper Jones wrote:I just got Ben Scotts ROTLA-style 10 footer.
It feels quite interesting.
I have 5 Joe Strain Indy whips so it will be interesting to compare them versus Bens...
I've corresponded with Ben and he certainly is a gifted and very enthusiastic whip maker with an eye for detail. But I am waiting for the right moment to place my order. His 4 to 6 month wait is rather staggering. I'm impatient.
What I would like a comment on for your review is the following:
- weighting and balance of his whip (is it light, heavy? when you cast the whip, does it have a feel that the whole whip is in balance? Like is it top heavy, handle heavy or in balance?)
- taper of the thong
(nice gradual taper all the way down to the tip, are there any noticable drop down areas where he drops the strands, are the 4 seams perfectly straight?, etc.)
- taper of each lace on the thong
(nice even gradual taper of each lace)
- tightness of his braiding, especially around the handle-thong junction area
(what I look for is whether the whip feels like a rope, which is obviously too loose, or does it feel like a whip?)
- the knots, heel and handle
(the quality of the knots, are they secure?, etc.)

Sergei,
I have been waiting to get some practice time inside (its too cold and snowy outside now here in Finland! ) and I believe I get it any day now so I can test Bens whip good.
My first impressions about braiding was "AUTCH!Is this too loose...!?"
because it little bit is compared to Joes whips...
Also Bens whip is Very Heavy!
I am not satisfyed to the fall...it is redhide, too wide and too flat shape. Ben has the idea that fall is as wide as the thong when they join but after that fall gets narrower towards the cracker. Idea is ok but falls shape is not good.
I´m sure if I change the fall to one of my Peter Jack white hide falls it will work much better...
I will give full test review here when I have tested the whip!
