Praise for Bernardo Whip

I bought a Bernardo-made whip shortly before halloween from a board member here, and I just wanted to post a quick story about the quality of these whips.

This thing is GREAT. It is very well made, as evidenced by one simple fact: I could crack it overhead on the first try. Literally. My first try craking overhead EVER and it gave me a really satisfying loud >POW!< crack.

I was stunned. I'd had a whip previously that was nowhere near as well made. I could crack it using the forward crack, but had tried (unsuccessfully) to do an overhead crack. This weekend, I headed out to a nice big open field to try my hand again. Again, I did a few forward cracks and once I got my arm into it, could crack regularly and easily. A nice crack, but not quite the volume I was looking for. Then I figured I'd try my hand at the overhead.

With just a passing recollection of the Bullwhip FAQ's instructions on how to do the overhead crack, I tried again with the new whip. And man, did that make a difference! The overhead crack was WAY louder than the forward crack. Pretty soon I was doing combination forward followed by overhead cracks.

So, why do I praise the whip? Mostly because I think the whip was doing all the work. I just sort of moved it around. I mean, I give myself some credit, but I do recognize that a BIG part of this is the whip's construction. Probably the majority of the ease with which I was able to crack it.

So, if you're in the market and you've got the cash, I can wholeheartedly recommend Bernardo's stuff. It's made well enough that a relative newbie like myself can crack it with ease.

i second that recommendation. though my previous whip was an over the border souvenier and i haven't had much experience with quality whips, i must say that bernardo's product is quite reactive when i go cracking.

i heard that a good whip will do all the work as what was said previously so i wanted to test that. i swung the whip over my head like a lasso (sp?) and when it came around i just flicked the wrist and sure enough she cracked. i repeated swinging it over my head ccw just to see how much effort i need to pop it putting less and less effort into it and each time she popped quite nicely....then i break the rotation with an overhead crack and KAPOW!

the whip i have is kip leather and the plaiting is very even. the weight through the thong is nice and full and will definitely respond quick to where your arm throws it. i can't imagine what his whips are like now after his david morgan visit. but i'm saving my pennies to find out.

I'll be happy to clean my comments up as an actual testimonial, but definitely feel free to just quote me here if it's easier for you. I got one of the whips from the TOD Whip thread (the picture of four), and it turned out to be just a great whip.

My previous whip was an inexpensive one and, while I could crack it, it really lacked the workmanship of your whip.

As has been said, folks, a quality whip does the work for you. All you have to do is use some general common sense and you'll be cracking in no time.

Apropos of the topic, my afternoon mail delivery yelded a new 8' Indy style Bernardo bullwhip.

I understand it is the first, or one of the first, Indy style whips Bernardo made after his visit to the 'Master."

Bernardo's version is very nicely done; to me, it looks very authentic.

The weight and balance of the whip suit me, the craftsmanship is excellent: the plaiting is tight, even, and well rolled. The whip lays out nicely, and I expect it will crack with authority.

All in all this has been a good day for a whip lover, and a Bernardo fan.

so that was you who snagged that whip off of ebay then eh? i must admit i was quite tempted to put my money on it but i already had an 8 footer from bernardo and would much rather have the money to put to a bernardo 10 footer.

you will definitely be pleased with that whips action. have fun and crack it with care.
