Hello everybody!

Post by Fatdutchman »

Ah, my first post!

As a hat afficionado, it's great to be here! My Akubra (which is actually a full size too large...) can be seen in my avatar. I just ordered two others...a size smaller, one brown, one gray. I also have a Miller hat coming to me within the next few days...that's ALL my hat money for quite some time! :D

In 1981, I was 10 years old. Indiana Jones was the greatest thing since Star Wars! (hey, it still is!). How many of you as a child back then had your very own Indy hat? Here's mine!

My grandfather was a deputy sherriff in the '70's. He let me play with his hat. It's a nice "hard" beaver hat. Very stiff, almost bulletproof (the way I like 'em). I popped the brim down and mashed in the pinch. Not a bad "bash" for a 10 year old, eh? Wish I could still wear it. 6 7/8. Pa had a small head.

I would run around in this hat with a short piece of nylon rope as my "whip".

I have a 4 year old nephew. I have single handedly gotten him hooked on both Star Wars AND Indiana Jones! He wears a cheap old cowboy hat and I gave him a "whip" that is a leather string with a couple of knots tied in the end for a handle. I got him a small size Jaxon Safari crusher hat for Christmas this year (a much better Indy hat than the old beige cowboy hat). The Legacy lives on....

Welcome to the Club! :D Always good to see new/old fans popping up.
Also glad to hear you passing the torch to your nephew. I've done that with my nephew, and now my son.
Glad to see you,
'Blues

welcome to a great collection of minds and friendly people. your story just reminded me of when i was a kid and played indiana jones with a bungee tie-down cord......man that was a real loooooooong time ago

that hat would've been the 'screen accurate' hat for a 10 year old for sure!

Hey, I'm also a newbie here, but of course grew up with Star Wars and Indiana Jones. I always had an "Indy hat" and even had a few bullwhips.

I just ordered a Federation fedora, so I'm very appreciative of all the advice and information here. Thanks so much for all the research and work you all do to help the Indy fan!
