It cracks well and very easy, and the plaiting is very tight and solid. It flows very nice.

Looks good! Just out of curiosity, Have you though about trying to tapering your stands on future whips?

Btw, What’s the popper made out of? Waxed artificial sinew ?

BullWhipBorton,

I am working on a Kangaroo bullwhip right now and I have been tapering the bellies and I was thinking of tapering the strands on the overlay but I might keep them wide for more durability but I haven't decided yet.
The popper is made out of waxed thread.

I am in awe. I don't even know what else to say. I can't learn to do something like that fast enough.

Thanks, I am looking forward to seeing that kangaroo hide bullwhip. The whip you just finished has a nice smooth even taper to it; I just like seeing a taper in the strands too. I know it’s a bit more difficult to do with cow/kip and you have to be more careful, but it gives it a finer finish and less potential problems with crowding as the thong narrows. With the kangaroo you should still be able to keep the strands wide enough to keep them very stong & durable if you finish with 6-plait point though. Nice work.

How do you like using that waxed thread for your poppers? I’ve played around with it a but find it’s a bit gummy, the strands seem to cling together too much keeping it from fraying at the end compared to poly pro or un waxed nylon.
