Here's my question about afterwards underarm gussets!

Post by orb »

Hello! At the moment I'm a bit confused about my LC Jacket! I really think that my sleeves are a bit too short. The biggest problem is the much riding up of the jacket. So my simple question is if Wested could install some underarm gussets afterwards? It is possible? Has anybody done this to his wested before? How much does it cost?

OK when I just stand there without moving, it's fine. But in motion it's very annoying

Greets and many thanks!

From the pics, it looks like the ride up is pretty minimal. I don't think the gussets would help you, in my opinion. Looks like a great fit all around.
post another pic with your arms forward, as in a driving position. That is where the ride up would be most annoying, since you may not spend much time with your arms above your head, unless you have alot of run ins with the police.

The folded leather at the cuff can be unfolded and used to enlengthen the sleeve at Wested.

Marc I have also recognised this but I don't think this will help much.
There's an inch inside but I think I just can unfold about a half inch.
I think some gussets will avoid the ride up nearly at all. I had a Wested HH Raiders Jacket with the same sleeve length and with gussets two days. There wasn't any ride up.

Orb, is your jacket an 80s cut or regular?

Orb,

How tight do you have the side fasteners done up? Looking at the photograph from the back, it looks like you have them done up pretty tightly. I remember with my first Wested, I had them done up all the way, as tight as I could get them, and the ride up bothered me. When I loosened them up, I found the jacket to be more comfortable, and I didn't feel any ride up. My first Wested also didn't have gussets, and it did the exact same thing yours does when you put your hands up. When it was zipped up about half way, and I reached for something high up, it was almost like the whole jacket would come up with my arm. Gussets don't really minimize that happenstance all that much, I've found, as I've owned two Westeds with underarm gussets over time.

Hi Strider. I just tighted them to get a good look of the back.
When I loosen them up the back of the jacket does always have what I would call a knob. But anyway loosen up doesn't help much. It's just a bit better when I wear a Sweater under the jacket. I wrote before that I had a HH Wested a short time ago and this jacket has the same sleeve length but with gussets and there wasn't any ride up. That's why I pretend to gussets :) May I ask Wested if it's possible to get underarm gussets afterwards and if not do you think they could install new sleeves?

Greets and thanks

Sure, you can ask. I'm sure that one way or another, they will install new sleeves if that's what you want.

I would think that horse would be a bit too stiff and heavy for an über accurate jacket that you seem to prefer. ;)

This time he's not going for "über"-accurate but for practical real-life adventure wear. And there you can't beat horsehide (well, maybe with that certain leather we used to bug Peter with  ).

I must know, 'cause he "infected" me with the same desease.
One weekend with my long lost brother and I'm running out of money ...

Jens, be happy you never hung out with _. He has bought so many jackets over the years, if you tried keeping up with HIM, you'd be in the poor house!!!!

Gemma wrote me back and she said: "We can add gussets but we are worried about matching the leather as the leather does vere in colour"
I think this isn't a big worry isn't it?
I don't think that I will give much attention to the exact color and leather of the gussets. Any body with me?

Greetings

Most people won't notice, as long as they're at least somewhat similar in color, I think.
