Gus,
Great looking whips! Sorry I've been out of touch for a while. I just had to con my wife into letting me buy G-Mann's Wested goatskin jacket, so, I now have to wait until after the new year to get a whip from you. I guess you could say I'm whipped. Don't worry, though. I won't forget.
Until then,
Ron

Here are a few more whips. One is a hat band 3ft long, the other is a tan Indy 8ft.

Not bad Gus. The two things that might nitpick about are the variations in the widths of some of the strands. Its more noticeable in the 2nd picture of your first post but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and hope that It just could be the picture angle or the way they are sitting together, but I seem to recall seeing that issue on some of your whips in the past that I have looked over. I like to see more uniformity in the width of each strand. Even though there is always a bit of leeway in width from one to another as they are hand cut, I don’t like to see a strand noticeably thinner setting next to another when I am looking for a whip to purchase. Secondly I’d really like to see more refinement in your wrist loops. Even though its just a cosmetic thing, you have these finely plaited whips, in my opinion a big clunky loop just takes away from the over all appearance of the whip. Anyway just a bit of some constructive criticism, otherwise they are looking good and I’ve heard good things about the way they handle. I particularly like the look of the 8ft dark tan bullwhip you did.

Hi I cut the strands with an aussie lacer.
On the cow hide I don't the strands much. I do it on custom orders when I am going through the specs. Even though they are not on a taper, the whip's belly is and that is where I put alot of attention on.
The wrist loop I can make any which way you want.
I know that in making Indy whips there are many specs that you look for to match what is in the Indiana Jones Films. These are my versions of them.
Thank you for all your comments.

Hey Gus,
Your whips are getting better! I agree with Indy Doc, the wrist loops look a bit too coarse on those whips. I would sugest you to try a 6 plait version, with finer strands. That's what Morgan whips have, and it will also look better on those 12 plait whips.
Lastly, try making the wrist loops 6 1/2 inches long. That's the "proper" length for an Indy whip.
Regards,
Bernardo

How do you do that?purewhips wrote:It takes me anywhere from 6 to 8 hours making a whip. Depending on what all is wanted in a whip. Lates man.conceited_ape wrote:Very nice work!
How long roughy does an 8ft take to make from scratch?
Always wondered.
It takes me about 6 hours just for the overlay on
a 6-8 footer.
Seriously,
You must move like a ninja.

Mr. Wolf how have you been man? Ain't heard from you in a long O time.
Once I start I don't stop. Been doing so many whips that I just do it like second nature.
But I think the secrete is that I have been playing video games since I was very young that I got very fast with my hands. Or it might just be OCD gotta get it done and right.
Lates Man.

I skive all my laces. Put them through a splitter to keep all the strands in uniform thickness. As the same for the bolsters. There is a slight taper but not much to them. This is cow hide not roo. Roo you can have them 1/8in in width and they will still have great strength. I want these whips to last a good while.
Whip making is what I do. Lates.
