7 5/8 re-block block NOW WITH BEFORE AND AFTER PICS

Post by Ripper »

Would any one be willing to re-block a hat for me? It needs to be a 7 5/8 block, I know Fedora doesn't do re-blocks on non-AB hats anymore. So anyone who might be able to help me out, let me know. I will take the hat apart before shipping, I just want the re-block. Thanks.

Try Art Fawcett. He's done work for me before, and does a VERY good job.

He can be reached at Stone488@Gotsky.com

His website is http://www.vintagesilhouettes.com

Another good choice. I didn't know JP had blocks that big, let alone offered reblocking services yet, though I know he announced he would be in the vendor section. He hasn't posted a link to a website that HAS that all that information yet. :?

Most hat makers have blocks that go up to about 7 1/2, but few choices above. My son-in-law wears a size 7 3/4 or so, and it's hob trying to find stuff for him.

Nothing meant by the comment.

Do you have a link to his website or any contact info for JP Design? I've been looking at his stuff in the vendor area and I am...intrigued.

Oh, and by the way, it's nice to meet 'ya!

I have been working on getting my store up and running. My website is in the works. My hat equipment is up and running and I have indy blocks up to a 7 3/4. I am doing repair work, as well as filling orders. I still have two peices of felt from the stetson batch of felt, as well as some good felt I got from Cury in both rabbit and beaver felt, that is on hand. My current lead time for a hat is less than a month. Some have gone out in a week. my shop is in Granbury Texas, about 45 minutes south west of downtown Fort Worth. Granbury has a nice little town square with a county courthouse and most of the building were built in the late 1800's. My store number is 817-579-1080. I am open Wednesday through Sunday, and by appointment on monday and tuesday. Jimmy

Please pardon my ignorance, but what exactly does a reblock do for a hat? I've got a 2 or 3 year old Federation that might could benefit from a reblock, but how would I know? I'm not too far from JP, so it's something I may consider. :-k

After may years (depending on material), a hat's crown tends to taper, or the crown tries to return to it's original cone shape.

A reblock is when a hat is stripped down to it's original felt material, pulled over a wooden hat block of the shape crown you want, and reset in that form.

A good felt doesn't require this very often. A cheaper felt needs it quite often.

Do some research in this section, as Fedora and Marc discuss this practice quite extensively.

So, does the reblock erase the existing bash completely? I had my bash set for a couple of years before I read about "the turn," and I have not been able to completely eliminate certain creases from the original bash. Would a reblock fix this?

About how much would a reblock cost? Obviously, one can see the cost/benefit of reblocking an Adventurebuilt or Optimo or Peter Brothers, given that they cost a pretty penny. However, if a reblock would run $50 or more, I'd just as soon get a brand new Federation regular.

Hasta tiempo proximo,

Not dodging the question here, but it just depends on who you get to do the job.

Ask JPDesign, like Ripper did, and see what he charges.

Wow. I remember when mine was like that JP. It won't be that way long after seeing some of your hats. I want to see more of your Indy fedoras here, as I know you do a great job. Plus, I need some load taken off of me, and most folks would rather buy from an Indyfan hatter than from someone else.

Art has just annnounced he will no longer be doing refurbs of hats other than his own, so you may be overwhelmed with refurbs, until you no longer can do them. There is as vacuum now that Art has had to adjust in order to get his turnaround times to something he is comfortable with. Fedora

Might I add that it is awesome what Jimmy did! I sent him just the body of a hat I Had and just wanted him to block it and put a new sweat band on it and he completely redid all of it! I owe him a great deal, he is a true stand up guy! Thanks Jimmy! You will always have my business!

 I knew JP design was crooked. You can't trust that guy. He steals your old hats and says he'll reblock them, but sends you newer, better, hats entirely! Hmph!

 Very nice!
