Some thoughts about those back pocket flaps...
Given the recent threads on pants (behave, Swindiana!), I thought it might be interesting to see how much difference there is in Indy's legwear in the three movies. Aside from the known colour differences, it does also seem that those pocket flaps have evolved/mutated during the trilogy.
The ROTLA flaps appear more pointed; scallops are deep and the main shape is almost triangular.
in ToD and LC the flaps are more reminiscent of the Wested and NH versions - definitively more rectangular and probably more of a "standard" design.
At first, I thought I spotted a difference between the ToD and LC flaps too - however I believe this to be wishful thinking. The ToD and LC pants are supposed to be the same kind, right? Would have been an interesting headache for our trouser vendors, though...
"Me want LC pants!"
"Me want to order pants with ToD flaps!"
And so on...
Still, perhaps one of our excellent vendors would like to consider offering ROTLA- and ToD/LC-accurate pants...

THe pants in ROLA came straight from Bermans & Nathan stock of army costumes and were 'Officers Pinks'. However in the later films having been destroyed there was no stock. New pants were made with the more modern rear pocket. I dont mind which I make but it may be interesting to have a poll of which one.
Cheers

But it seems only the men of COW care about Ford's rear end.
...Not that there's anything wrong with that

Serial Hero made the observation in 23 hours, 33 minutes and 4 seconds.
Check these out. The pocket flaps look pretty similar to the LC ones with nice scalloping and the price is right. Wrong color though, they are grey/gray.

Those pants do indeed look good, style-wise. However, they are made of broadcloth, which is substantially heavier than cav twill.Michaelson wrote:I wonder if the color we're being shown is a decent representation of the actual material color?:-k
And as the pants are NVA (Nationale Volksarmee, East German army), they're most definitively gray...
Nevertheless, a good find indeed!

The ROTLA flaps are a pain indeed. Take a look at this grab from the Cairo swordsman scene:
same scene, yet now the flap looks considerably less scalloped compared to my first pic from the same scene.
Unless Harry had to change his pants during the shoot due to his, er, condition... in which case we stand before a new dilemma - were there different pants unsed during the production? I'm thinking in terms of "hero" pants and "stunt" pants... one for the necessary butt/pocket flap closeups and another, less elaborate type of legwear for distance shots?

hey platon,
"no one can get these pocket flaps right". i am attempting to get these pesky flaps correct from the screen grabs on this thread (raiders style of course).
i bought some wool pants that were on sale and am having the leftover material from the hem job turned into pocket flaps. i found out that this is not that easy of a thing to do. with the hemming and the pocket flap, the tailoring will cost as much as the pants!
i'll post pics when i get them. the flaps should be darn close to the triangular shape with the right amount of scalloping.

WOW! Those are the closest I have seen yet. If Peter could get these on his pants I'd buy another three or four pair.Kt Templar wrote:Check out the Eastman Officers Pinks V original photos.
