how to burn your dog with your whip

Post by Indiana G »

i thought i'd get you to read this....first of all, i would like to say that no one was harmed in this stunt and my dog is fine. i also want to stress that whips are not toys and you should always be vigilant of how and where you crack your whip.

that said, i was cracking my Bernardo whip today when my wife wanted to come see how my skills were progressing. she was enamoured by how loud i could get the whip to crack. after a bit of playful banter between the two of us she told me to "watch out or i'll use that whip on you". at that point i handed her the whip and told her to give it her best shot.....first mistake. she pointed it in a safe direction and i was well clear of the whip, but she was snapping the whip out in front of her and it was flying back way too close to her. i tried to walk her through the "forward crack" but she was still pulling it back way to soon. i was a little scared that she would lash herself but was also quite happy that she wanted to share one of my interests. needless to say, i took the whip back and tried to instill into her that it is easier to go through the motions nice and slow without even cracking the whip...but just to get the feel of it soaring through the air and the weight of it in the hand.

at this point in time, little sparky (my 7 month old bulldog) got tangled up with his leash where i tied him. as my wife bent down to untangle the leash with my lit cigarette in her hands (she was holding it for me and oh yeah...kids out there, don't smoke...not cool and indy didn't smoke as well), i voiced out, "don't move, i'm gonna knock the cigarette out of your hand".....second mistake. before she had a chance to react, i threw a very (and i stress on the very) light underhand throw directly at the cigarette looking to just brush her hand and have her annoyed at me. the fall actually struck the cigarette out of her hand and landed next to poor sparky....who then accidentally stepped on the burning ember. i was amazed at how accurate the whip was as it was only the second time that i hit a target with a light underhand throw (i've never hit anything with an overhand yet). once i was reassured that mom and dog were ok i went on like a kid showing off to his parents at a hockey game..."did you see me? did you see what i did?".....where she replied, "yes dear.....indiana would be jealous"

anyways, i thought i would share that. it was funny after i found out that everyone was ok. i just want to stress that whips are very enjoyable when you learn how to use them but always remember that they can inflict bodily injury so please crack with care.

thanks BWB,

i can probably fashion something out of my hockey stand with some styrofoam plates. that would do the trick.

my wife isn't sore at me one bit because she knows i would never intentionally hurt her. as for my dog, being a bully breed, he doesn't know what pain is. he is the most gentle creature i have owned and never complained once when he hurt himself or if the vet had to give him a shot. i've only heard him yelp once when the breeder injected the tracking chip into him when he was 8 weeks old and that was it. he never cried when he ripped his baby tooth out, or when he got hit in the nose by a frisbee, or when he accidentally got kicked in the chops when playing soccer....but oh does he loooooooove to whine about things when he doesn't get his way

"short round" is a perfect description for him and he screams and whines like willie scott :D

Hey Gil,

I also got worried when I first read the header...only to laugh afterwards. Great story, I'm glad your little dog was not injured, and that your wife didn't ground you :)

Take care,

Bernardo

Check Josh DeWitt's stuff:

He today just revealed a new contraption that launches a Ritz round cracker out like a skeet machine so you can try hit a movie object. He has some great whip stand. My favorite is the break down stand.

I just stopped by there for 20 min. on my way back from Dallas as they were cleaning up. I won't be out there tomorrow. I thought I'd see you out there but figured you'd left early or something since you were no where to be found. I saw Deena, which was nice since I didn't get to say bye when she moved to Huntsville.
