Your Wested Goatskin Experiences:

Post by Captain D »

Hello everyone,

I just recieved my first Wested goatskin the other day and since this is my first experience with a "goatskin," I was just curious to see how your Goatskins held up....any stories or adventures you have experienced with your Goatskins you would like to share? Just how durable are Goatskins?

Regards!

Hey Captain D,

Congrats on your new wested goat!.I don't own a wested goat but I do own a FLIGHTSUITS goat and I have to tell you that the leather is great!.It is aging very nicely and feels like this leather will last a very, very long time.It is no doubt very durable and will probably out last most other leathers, especially if treated as needed.Wear it in good health.

Best regards,

Congrats with the jacket Captain,

I own a Wested Raiders in goat since Nowember '02. I've treated it with a good cover of Scoutch Guard and simply worn it every single day since. No matter if it was raining like in a shower or snowing like in Alaska. All you have to do is shake off the rain drops when you get inside again and let dry. A fantastic leather! It just didn't absorb the rain / snow.

Enjoy your new jacket Captain, there's NOTHING to worry about on a Wested goat.

Regards,

Marc

Cap'n D,

Peter is waiting on the authentic-colored goatskin to arrive before making my Wested Raiders jacket. However, I can tell you an experience that I had last month in a Flightsuits Expedition chrome goatskin. We were out doing some last minute X-mas shopping, walking the aisles rather briskly. I turned a corner too sharply, heard a scraping sound along my right forearm, and my heart sank. I suddenly realized that I had just rubbed the sleeve across the corner of a sharp piece of metal shelving! I was afraid to look. Summoning up the courage, I pulled my right arm across my body to check and there was nothing I could see. So I asked my wife to look to see if she could find anything. Nothing.

I was perplexed b/c judging from the sound of it, there should have been a big ol' tear across the sleeve. When I got home, I perused the sleeve and the rest of that side of the jacket. Nothing. Not a tear. Not a scratch. Not even a slight surface abrasion. Absolutely nothing.

Goatskin is definitely the way to go if you want durability.

I.J.

p.s.--Cap'n, did you see the pic of the Carolina boot in the other section?

I have had my Wested Goatskin since spring/summer last year (I am terrible for remembering exact dates).
I have not coated it with anything, and so far it has not deteriated in any way.
It's been on beaches (sand and sea water), in the rain, subjected to heat. I have deliberately tried not to cosset it, because though I love it dearly, I want it to be a lived in jacket too.

Further I don't think I have gone more than a day without wearing it.

It is a jacket that I cannot complain about in any way!

I now dream of getting one of the 'new' original style italian lambskins 8)

I'm sure your jacket will be just as good :D

My goatskin was a superb jacket only it was too short so I shipped it back to Peter. Waiting for my revised one now.

Kind regards

Wow good stuff :D

Its good to hear that "goatskin," in general, is a tough leather and very durable!

Hey there Indiana Joe, good to chat with you again! Yes, I have seen the pic of the new Carolina boots, and I have been wearing them as well since November. A great boot, rugged and stylish all in one! I can also relate to how I also ran into a sharp edged corner with my Lambskin. I heard a big rip and saw that the leather ripped clean off....I did it not once, but twice, lol. From there on out, I knew that I was the kinda guy who needed a lightweight jacket, yet very durable so that I could "live in it" as well!

I can relate to ya there some Doctor Jones with your situation. I recieved this new Goatskin in a size 44 regular. However, something felt kinda short as compared to my other 44 regular. I measured and compared the two. I found that they were exactly the same, except that the sleeve length was exactly one inch shorter w/ my new goatskin. Not a problem at all, and it actually feels more comfortable.

Thanks for writing and sharing your experiences with your goatskins! Are there any more stories and adventures out there?

Highest Regards!

Well Captain D. I measured the new goatskin jacket and my older Lambskin Wested and the lenght of the jackets body were quite different. 7 cm the difference was so I shipped it back to the UK as soon as I had the funds to do that and that's about a week ago. Hope the new one will be better but I suppose it will be. The rest of the jacket was just superb!

Kind regards
