The writer and every member of this forum strongly deter anyone from buying this jacket because of its unacceptable quality and suspected fraudulent activity on the part of its vendors. So, unless you are looking for a Halloween costume jacket that you will throw away the next day after the party is over, avoid this jacket by all means.

I think I wouldn't buy a jacket from someone who stole an image from Wested and tried to pass it off as their own. You're missing the point here, man. You don't know what you're getting. Why on earth would anyone spend any amount of money for that? I could get a bunch of comics for that 13$. No, I'll save my money for other things, rather than rolling the dice on something I've got no clue about.
On top of that, who would get the jacket? Classic clam bake waiting to happen.

Tell you what....why don't YOU step up to the plate, put down YOUR hard earned money to buy one, then YOU review it?PLATON wrote:I need about 10 volunteers to pay $12.8 each into a paypal account operated by the admin of this forum and let's buy one of these jackets to review it.
What do you think?
That's what I've been doing for years with items that we needed a review about.....The item was then given to someone who couldn't afford one.

I think everyone missed the point, or at least isn't entertaining the one item contained within. He merely put it there as one of the available options. Just because we know its horrible doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Its painfully obvious no one from this board would buy it for any reason, but some poor schmuck out there might.

Bjones,
That was sort of our point. SOMEONE might buy one, and I'd hate to think anyone here had steered them toward it. That's why I don't think it should be in there, it should just be the legitimate vendors. This company used a photo from someone elses's site, period. So, who's to say that jacket actually does exist. Yes, there are photos of one someplace. That doesn't prove much. It proves they made ONE jacket, very BADLY. AND thier using photos of someone else's product to advertise/sell it. I could claim to be offering my own hand-made version of Aldens, but if all I had as proof was a stock photo I clearly took from the Alden website, what would that say? You're right, most people here realize it's a total joke, that company. But we're getting new members in here all the time. Some are really young, with little money to spend and must spend it wisely. I would hate to see anybody drawn to this fictional jacket because of the price, get ripped off and have the hobby ruined for them.
Didn't mean to go off on a rant there But this same thing happens to me quite often with my work, and it's d@mned infuriating.

Guys,
I sent a PM to Platon about the jacket in question. He must have not gotten it yet.
Anyways...
Back last year when I was looking for a Indy jacket at a good price I found the Leather Attractions site. Thankfully being a member here already let me spot that the pic and jacket were from Wested's site and they just "photoshoped" a models face on the "Indy Dummy". I wrote them an e-mail and they sent me real pics of the jacket. I posted them here at the time but since then I moved stuff around and I can't find them on my computer. If I do I'll send them over.
I wouldn't recommend it and the description from Shawnkara is pretty much spot on.
Hope I steered someone clear of making a mistake.

I, too, emailed them, and received several email replies, but unlike you, NEVER received any photos or samples that I requested....so I believe they got nervous when they got more than one inquiry at the same time.

Yeah,
I think we did send them at the same time if I recall. I remember acting very interested in the e-mail and didn't say anything about being an Indiana Jones fan. That might have been why they sent me pics. I know people have had similar luck with the HJ shop when they've gone in to look at the Poet.
I've been looking through all of my stuff and I think after I ordered my Wested I just deleted them.
The jacket was very "puffy" looking and the lining looked almost like something you'd seen in those flanel shirt jackets they sell in the winter.
I'm sure it's a decent "regular" leather jacket I just wouldn't place it in the same catagory as the ones above.
You've got to wonder about the craftsmenship when they use a photo "borrowed" from another site to promote their jacket.

Your discription of the Leather Attractions jacket fits with the pic they sent me through the e-mail back when I was looking for a good but cheap Indy jacket.
It looked "puffy" as well on the model and I believe that had to do with the flannel lining you described.
This only confirms what I thought after receiving the pic and I would advise new people on here to heed your warning as well.
Save your money up and get a Wested, it's the best option out there.

Thanks, Platon for the post. Not sure if anyone has done an updated jacket list in the past 5 years as it should be on the main page. Hint, hint, mods. Just bustin' your bells a bit.
LA is only about 45 minutes from me. I may have to pay them a visit someday.
That is the absolute bottom line. No doubt about it. I too think that the Leather Attractions link should be removed. For cripes sake, they can't even take their own pics! It's one thing if they wanna make a @#$% jacket and try to sell it but to steal the pics from Chris King, Wested and then doctor them...well...they would have spent less time taking their own pics instead of stealing and doing an entry level photoshop to it to try to sell their product. It's just bad business from the start and it is my personal opinion that they don't belong here where the good majority of people are decent and honest.this should be a safe place to gather info, share informed opinions, and make choices about how to spend one's money.

In September the dollar was 1.85 making the price $268. which is why I put the $ at approx $275 for a jacket.
As for import duty how many pay that and is that not similar to USA sales tax?
That is not my real problem which is people giving me order with a list of extras which I do not offer as an option.
Those modified spec jackets will have a starting price of £165 and I do not garantee to do all the spec items but will quote what and how much can be done and cost. These really take time and time is money.
Cheers
Peter

I would leave the Leather Attractions there just to show how bad it is. Otherwise, you will get posts every six months from a new member who has found a "new" jacket for our viewing pleasure. Why not leave it here for what it is. A mess... Then people can still use the "search" function and get all the dirt on this catastrophe.

All the prices should be split into the different price bands that they come at, should also have the separate cost for shipping, and note that tax may also be applicable etc.
In the case of Wested the 2 bands are £145/US$283.65 and £165/US$322.77 (£10/US$19.56 surcharge for Horse).
Larger sizes are quoted as more but I've not heard of larger folk being particularly singled out.
Shipping Europe, US, Canada: £20/US$39.12 (£35/US$68.47 Australasia).
As of writing the exchange rate is 1:1.956 (WOW!)
Be aware that you may be charged import duty if purchasing outside of Europe, but the amount that would be would be a similar amount to the sales tax you would pay on domestic goods anyway.

Cowhide -- that explains its differnet look. It looks thicker than the others -- and exactly like what it is -- an Indy-style biker jacket. Looks tough. I like it._ wrote:Somebody sent me some leather samples from various vendors, and I believe there was a sample included from Merry Terry (had not heard of them before that...)...Garzo wrote:I quite like the Leathers by Merry Terry jacket. Does anyone on COW own one or have there been any reviews of it?
It was black and I think it was embossed cowhide. I don't usually like embossed leathers, but this was nice stuff. Extremely soft. Wish I had a sample in brown...
Peter says the jacket costs only $315
However, if you check his website you will see that it costs $312.86
http://www.ekmpowershop4.com/ekmps/shop ... rymethod=2
That's even cheaper than the $315.
The $321 was my mispelling of the $312.
I apologize to Peter and to the members of this forum for posting the price incorrectly.

The Terry jacket is something I had her make based off of photos for the most part. It was back before I knew you could order from Wested (before I was on the 'net). In fact, I found out about Wested while I had her putting that together. Nice jacket, but not accurate to any of the movie jackets.
Always a shock to find a picture of myself online!
Always a shock to find a picture of myself online!
I still say that you should take the Leather Attractions pic and info OUT of the list! We've already established that they stole pics from Wested and Chris King w/o permission and we already had reviews that the jacket is nothing less than poorly stiched @#$%.
Do you really want to leave them as an option to a newbie (or anyone for that matter) who may take the wrong path and waste money on a company who we know steals and puts out a bad product? It seems the exact opposite of how almost all members here conduct themselves.
All the other offerings have been fruitful to our members in one way or another or have a solid rep among members here and elsewhere...except Leather Attractions. I fully understand you want a comprehensive list but they just don't belong here.
PLEASE remove them.

I agree 100% with agent5. That's sending a newbie down a blind alley, and lining the pockets of individuals known to have stolen images, and who have ignored requests to change their ways. If you do that, we'll clear out all the extra discussion regarding said jacket and clean things up to make this read a lot easier.
Once Todd's jacket becomes available (and final version seen), you'll want to edit your list as well to show the real production jacket.
Regards! Michaelson

Well, I appreciate your comments. We should all exercise due dilligence to protect newbies from any pitfalls.
The leather attraction jacket belongs in the list since it is an offering.
However, very soon, I am going to write a small review on each of the listed jackets that will serve as a Buyer's Guide for our newbies.
In that review, I will stongly refrain anyone from buying the said jacket. I trust this will help.

Well, I do understand your point, and well taken. Maybe you need to add a disclaimer in the jacket description stating what we DO know about this vendor, then, as stated above, we can clean up this string so it's easier to follow.
Just a word to the wise, be VERY careful about writing 'reviews' about a gear item. Yours will be subjective, and others may have a completely different point of view. The best thing to do is just write a description with no opinions stated, and let the reader just use the information to compare items. That way no one gets bent out of shape that their favorite didn't get a favorable review. Also, state all information posted is yours and yours alone, and not that of the administration or webmaster of COW. That way you don't ruffle the feathers of the administrator.
It was also made a 'stickie' for the time being, so folks can find it easier.

Michaelson, thanks for your message. I had that in mind too.
The review will be restricted strictly to facts we all know about the jackets.
There will not be any personal opinions, just the undoubtful facts.
If anyone would like to cooperate on the editing this posting to achieve a better result feel free to contact me at platon@stardust-records.com

I can't speak to the quality of the jacket or the vendor, but I just stumbled across the Protocol jacket listed above, currently available for $110 from Bargain Outfitters.
