Order Placed (Arrived, w/ Pics!)
I just sent out my order to Wested for my new jacket...! Very excited - as I'm sure most of you were when you got yours. I'm looking forward to the upgrade from the Cotton Indy - which I may give to my girlfriend. Sorry that I had to do another one of these posts, but you guys are close friends and I thought I'd share my excitement with you.
Here's my specs:
Raiders Auth. Lamb
34R
23.5" sleeves
X Box Stitching
Underarm gussets
Rectangular sliders
Gemma is going to tell the leather cutter to add a little extra to my 34R and 23" sleeves so that I have some room to grow. I opted for the gussets because I read all the posts here on them and some say they help ride up and some say they don't - but I had the extra cash to pay for them and I hate ride up, so I'm doin' that for sure.
Now - any advice for the wait?? It should be about 21 days of torture, yes?
In Christ,
Shane

Congradulations McFly! (and I'm touched that we're considered your close friends ) My best suggestion for helping time pass is video games. Go dig out a copy of Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb and spend some good, quality time beating the snot out of Nazis, Ivory Hunters and Chinese Gangsters. Enjoy the jacket, and be sure to post pics when it arrives. :junior: -IJ

Shane, congratulations. I know you have been waiting for this for a long time.
I didn't understand what you meant about the underarm gussets helping to prevent ride up. They maybe help in giving your arms a more free range of motion, but they don't do anything to help prevent ride up.
What we refer to as ride up is when the jacket is zipped up and the bottom edge of the front of the jacket appears higher than the edge of the jacket in the rear. This seems to be a result of a person's size, weight, build, and posture. Some people experience ride up and some don't.
As thin as you are, my guess is you will not experience the ride up. However, depending on your body shape and your posture, you may. There is no way of knowing in advance. 20 years ago, I would not have had ride up on my jacket. Now that I have a chest of drawers body (my chest has done fallen into my drawers) I do experience ride up, but only if I zip up the jacket. I rarely ever zip the jacket, so for me it is not a big deal.
If you are concerned with ride up, the cure for it is to have an extra inch added to the length of the front of the jacket. Everything else sounds like you are good to go.

Well, with the last Wested I ordered, I didn't even notice the time it took to get here, because it's summer, and I wouldn't be wearing a jacket! The first time, though, I just focused on other things that I was doing instead of wondering when the jacket was going to arrive.
I remember how I felt, though! I was all worried about whether or not it would fit, as I had done my own measurements, and relieved as all get out when it fit perfectly.
Like I said, just focus on other things, and it'll be here before you know it. Congrats on the purchase.

Hey Buff - I guess I'm using the wrong term then - what I mean is just when you raise your arms how the jacket moves very high off your belt line. I like my jackets not to move TOO much when I'm moving my arms.
Capt. D - Yeah, 34R! I'm not very old at all; that is, I'm not super tall, and I'm reaaally slim.
IndianaJones - I was going to put "family," but thought better of it. It's just that after 2 QM summits with Disneyland both times, having been given a prop replica as a gift, having had dinner at the QM paid for by people like Bufflehead and GraveRobberGreg (which was quite embarassing for me), and meeting Bink down in Mexico for pics and talking, I feel like I've gotten to know members of this community well enough to say that you guys feel like close friends. I guess that makes me an official nerd! !!
Strider - I'm worried it won't fit either - but that's just because I'm very overly analytical and that's how I am. lol I hate it. But it is summer; I do have that going for me. Hopefully I won't think too much about a jacket until the good seasons come along.
In Christ,
Shane

Re: Order Placed!
Sounds like a very sensible set of specs to me. How does that compare to the size of your cotton Raiders? (You know, I still haven't seen one of those in the flesh yet. They don't seem to keep them in stock in the shop.)IndyMcFly wrote:Here's my specs:

Well, the Cotton Indy is also a 34R, but the sleeves are a half inch shorter. Yes, they're only 22.5" and it's really small, and I only ordered the new sleeves at 23.5", but Gemma suggested that I measure only to my cuffs when ordering, and she would make them longer appropriately. The 34R stays the same because my chest hasn't grown any - just my arms and my stomach. So technically, I don't want 23.5" sleeves, I want at least 24" but I went with Gemma's suggestions. Besides - I think missing half an inch on your sleeve length is pretty big - even if the new one comes out funky and it's only 23.5" it'll look right and fit fine.
The Cotton jackets really fade in the sun - I think Wested ought to treat them with something before sending them out.
Just a thought...
In Christ,
Shane

You guys wont be disappointed. I was lucky enough to get one on the secondary from someone at the RPF and it fit me as if it were made for me. I LOVE this jacket and can't wait for it to cool off here in the desert so I can go back to wearing it every single day I can.
My wife gave me a hard time cause I wore such a nice jacket camping and around the fire. I told her it's supposed to get dirty and worn from wear. If it smells like a campfire for months so be it.

Hey Orb - congrats! Let's see who gets theirs first! lol I think it'll be you - mine still has to be processed tomorrow.
Bleyd - I'm just looking forward to my room smelling like leather again, in terms of jacket odors. I don't do camping enough to get it to smell like a fire - but I really like that scent too. Luckily I think it's cooling off here in CA by a lot. Wish I had a nice jacket though.

Shane

Okay, I know what you are talking about, now. Peter says that the gussets don't really make any difference. I have them, and have tried on jackets that didn't have them, and Peter is probably right. But, I figure that it can't hurt to give a little more room under there for movement. But, the gusset does seem to just follow the same outline as it would if it wasn't there, so the difference they make is minimal if any at all. I guess that is why people have discussed wether they like them or not, screen accuracy issues aside.IndyMcFly wrote:Hey Buff - I guess I'm using the wrong term then - what I mean is just when you raise your arms how the jacket moves very high off your belt line. Hey Ray,
No, I didn't get the 80's fit... you know, I really thought about it, but I wanted some room to grow in it, so it might even look a little bit big on me when I do get it, but it shouldn't be monstrous lookin'. What size is your Wested?
I can't wait to see either though, let me tell you. lol I'll def post pics here.

Shane

My new Wested has been sent today! Raiders Jacket 42R, 80's fit, Dark Brown Horsehide (yeehaw)
There was some missunderstanding with my order.
I placed one order before but then I wanted some changes and I've placed another order. But Peter had already cut the Jacket from my first order. It wasn't paid yet but Wested trust me?
No problem. Two calls and everything was fine. Now I've got the Dark Brown Horsehide. Because I wanted the Horse first. Hope it isn't that stiff ^^
I was a just a step ahead buying another Lambskin. Thanks to Peter!
I had also requested much more features on this jacket like:
Back elastic "action" pleat.
X box stitching on the side straps
Top of panel to extend all the way out to the inside edge of the sleeve seam.
Raiders Pockets & Raiders Collar
No leather facing inside zip
Nickel Zipper
I placed the first order on 12th August, so today it's day 13th and I believe it will arrive on 28th or 29th of August
Pictures next week
Greetings

O_O!!!! Wow!! You only ordered a few days before me - if you ordered on the 12th that means Wested got it on Monday the 14th, and my order was cleared on the 16th! If yours got shipped today, there's a chance mine will get shipped soon and I might get it on Sept. 1st!
WOW!
Dude - now I'm excited. Don't ever post like that again. You made my day - totally.
Thanks!!

I've placed the order on 12th August. It was a saturday and Peter wrote immediatley back on the same day and told me the order number.
On 15th August the jacket was already cut. Today I received an email that my jacket is being machined now and few hours later I received the shipping notice. So it definitly was a very fast service
IndyMcFly I hope you will also get your jacket soon. Then we want pictures and a big smile from you

I didn't think they would put a nickel zipper on, even if you requested it. When did they start offering it? Orb, let us know if it actually comes through with the nickel zipper.IndyDoc wrote:Wow that was only 10 days!

The total price of the jacket was 175 pounds with shipping.
So I don't think, that I have paid extra for the nickel zipper.
145 pounds + 20 pounds shipping + 10 pounds Dark Brown Horshide

Well my new Wested has arrived today. Raiders, New Dark Brown Horsehide.
I have requested many additional stuff on this jacket but Wested haven't included them.
No: silver zipper, leather facing on the inside zip, no raiders pockets (they even bigger as on my LC jacket)
I also don't think that I got the rectangular sliders in black, seems like the antique bronce. But maybe I can research them on ebay or whatever and change them. Not a big deal IMO.
OK now to the good, I've got some under arm gussets and they great!
They will help me quite much. No riding up anymore but the horse is also quite stiffer, this will maybe also help a bit. I also got the complete Cotton silesia lining. Nice to have the new jacket a bit different. The 80's fit is very interesting, I think it fits me very well. I don't have a slim body. My waist is nearly the same as my chest. Around 40 inch ^^
I really love this new jacket, I can live without the features.
This isn't a new thread so it isn't worthless without pics
pics will follow today!

Those definatly are NOT the Raiders pockets, if that's what you specified you might want to talk to them. Seems like it fits pretty well though. What do you think?
BTW, I thought that strap was made of packing tape for a while, untill I figured out it was just the web strap. Looked kind of brown.

It's hard to describe how much stiffer it is.
I just can say it's not a second skin like the lamb, it feels not that comfortable when you wear it. I think I will wear it till next summer, maybe it will break in a bit but I don't think it will be much softer.
If you plan to go for an adventure then give the horse a try, if you want a fine allday jacket for your office or sightseeing go for the lamb.
When you wear the lamb and immeditialy change to the horse, you think you're wearing a body armor. So you just need to habituate the horse jacket.
I have forgot to mention. I believe I got the gussets for free. I have paid 175pounds totally, 145+20shipping+10 horsehide.
Normally there is a 5 pound fee for the gussets.

Yeah at the moment I feel very upset. I mean wested are pro's. Everybody could see that these pockets are too big for the size of the jacket. It's like the half front body is completly used for the pockets
The collar also seems to be to big, it's the same size as on my LC. Why?
It's just a shame spending 10 pounds for sending back and then another 25 pounds again for the shipping
I hope they will also change out the sliders.

Ok, if you are sending it back to change the pockets it will mean the whole of the front of the jacket needs to be changed. If that's the case or they decide just to completely redo it then I suggest having your neck size adjusted (the jacket not you - you know what I mean) it seems too small and will allow the collar to sit lower, and yes the collar seems too big. I also agree those are LC pockets.
Don't wear it anymore! Don't begrudge the shipping, you'll forget about it in a while, it all comes down to buying internationally. Take it this way, if I were buying a G&B they'd charge us $100 for shipping.
As I've said in the other new jacket thread I believe Peter is out of the black sliders, but you could check.
Regards
Kt.

KT is giving good advice. If there is anything that bothers you about the jacket, it will always bother you about the jacket. You won't learn to live with it anymore then, than you are now.
Don't wear it. If you do, you will have to pay for any changes. I know it was a long wait, but it is worth it to wait a little longer now and have it the way that you want it. It will be faster than the original wait. Invest a little more time and a little more money for shipping any you will be happy. Keep the jacket now, and you will probably end up selling it on ebay because it will always bother you that it wasn't exactly what you wanted.

No wonder they can get things right. It's so confusing! Does she mean there are big Raiders pockets and small Raiders pockets or is she saying that Raiders pockets are bigger than normal (or LC) pockets? (which isn't true) Peter posted pictures of the pocket templates and the original Raiders template was much smaller.
OOhh, that's just not correct at all. There's a little bit of confusion going on somewhere. Raiders pockets = small pockets and Last Cruisade(LC) pockets = large pockets, atleast to the folks here on this forum. LC needed larger pockets for the grail diary. Does anybody like the large pockets? I only read complaints regarding pocket size.

Yep I'm really confused now
I don't understand why the pockets on my raiders horsehide are bigger as on my LC jacket
And if you state just raiders pockets then I don't understand why they make them such huge? Look at my pictures, I really looks strange!
The jacket is really short and the pockets are nearly the half front of the jacket. I have sent back the jacket today. They need to make a new one.
Hope I get the same jacket back just with really small pockets.

I don't know which country you are sending the jacket from, but I hope that you followed Wested's instructions on returning items. You have to document that it is a UK made item being returned for alterations, and put a notation on the box stating the same. Without this, they will attempt to charge Wested an import fee, which Wested will refuse to pay and your jacket will be returned to you. It will end up being a waste of time and money (shipping) and you will have to send it back again, only this time following the instructions.orb wrote:I have sent back the jacket today. Well good luck Orb, let us know how the whole situation turns out. Also, please ask Gemma/Peter a direct question for us if you get a chance...That is, tell them that you want to let your freinds at COW know what to say or how to request small pockets. A direct quote like "Small pockets" or "Small Raiders Pocket" because we're all under the impression that Raiders pockets are smaller. Tell them that we're all confused over here (even though I don't think we are )
