Custom made Magnoli shoes. A review

Hey gang,

I got the shoes I ordered from Magnoli for my wedding. And they're awesome. There's ONE tiny thing that could have been better and that is, that I can't pull the laces tight enough to make the shoes close all the way up, due to my high step. Otherwise the craftmanship and the quality are top notch and they look EXACTLY as I wanted (a patent leather replica of the Church's Consul). Also the fit is great - aside from that high step issue and they're EASILY the best shoes, I've ever owned. They're DEFINETLY worth every cent.

Since I don't see any big deal in adding a little more room for my high step, I'll most probably get myself a pair of Indy boots from him later.

From what I can make out, the toes look REALLY nice....AND HUGE!!!!

Except for the patent leather part, these look very similar to a pair of shoes that I bought from Johnston and Murphy:

Those are nice shoes! I'd like to find a pair of brown wing tips myself. I know Aldens sells them and when I go the Africa and find my diamond mine then I'll be a shoe buyin' fool!

Going by the Gentleman clothing book I have, the Church's Consul are the most official shoes available, especially due to the way they close together where the laces are. Since I really liked the look of these shoes when I first saw them, this occasion was the right "excuse" to get some

The Johnston and Murphy's look very nice too, but they are rather "open" shoes, whichs makes them a little less formal (going by the book mentioned above again). Don't get me wrong, I'm nowhere a slavish follower of everything written in that book, but there's a reason that some styles has been first choice for more than 70 years and a wedding is not the best occasion for experiments

Do you already have a tux?

Yes, I went with Magnoli's offer here again, but - as with the shoes - I chose something that he didn't offer to start with. I went over literally HUNDREDS of online pictures from tuxedos, cut it down to 10 or so, printed them out, and let my fiancé decide. This was her choice (I had a FEW alterations made though):

I also ordered (and got) a tailored shirt with French cuffs and a tie made from the same material and color as the vest of that tux. I'll make a review of the tux yet. Probably next week, when I have time to go over the details.

Tell me more about this book, where did you get it?

I didn't experiment at my wedding, these are the shoes I wear every day. But, for the wedding I did have patent-leather shoes with my tux of a similar style, although the details escape me.

Yeah, plenty of pictures, but the text really is the most important factor.

Perhabs it does exist in English too.
