Off the rack

Post by GoneSolo »

Does anyone have an "off the rack" jacket from Wested? If so, do you like it? Would you have rather purchased a custom one?

I have a off the rack Temple of doom cowhide jacket size 42.

It fits me so well I dont think it would matter if I got fitted.
Ive worn it in the rain so much and grown into in that it
has stretched to fit the way i move. none of the panels are
the origonal size anymore.

Off the rack might fit you fantastic, if you are an off the rack size. You should have your measurements taken and then let whomever you are buying your jacket from decide on what to send you. Don’t guess. You’ll avoid aggravation on both ends (you and the jacket company). Cheers

The following is quoted from indyjacket.com:
SIZES
Each Indy Jacket is custom-made and therefore available in any size required. Please consult our sizing and options page for further information on sizing and alternative specifications available.

SIZING HINTS and TIPS
As each Jacket is custom-made, I require the following measurements.

Height: Your height in inches or metric.

Chest: Measuring under the arms round the chest (loose fit). Or alternatively, the size of jacket that fits well, i.e. 42 Regular.

Sleeve: Measuring the sleeve length from the shoulder to the cuff or, even better, from the sleeve of a jacket that fits you.

Note: USA sizes in men's are the same as UK. Continental sizes can be converted without problem.

Extra's Available on Standard Jackets:  Under Arm Gussets £5, Extra Inside Pocket £5, Back Pleat Elastic [Free]

Please note any requests other than sizing which deviate from the standard specification as above may well incur extra charges and will make the garment non exchangable.
It looks like Wested will still do custom sizing in the normal £145 price. It is the "extra customisations" that incur the higher price. Peter correct me if I have misunderstood.

Thats what I figured, but I read somewhere on the site that Peter took one look at someone and took a jacket off of the rack and told him to put it on. No customizing necessary. I might be thinking to much of it though. I should just send my measurements and let it ride.

I have ordered a standard Wested natural Lambskin LC Jacket. Size 42R!

See viewtopic.php?t=18576
for some pictures.

I like it! I still have some problems when I want to close the upper press stud fastener.

Greets

I remember looking at those photos like a week ago and thinking "WOW, what a great looking jacket!" Peter makes a quality product. Nice jacket orb!

In our factory shop I have a rail full of Indyjackets.
Some are returns from people who ordered the wrong size, some from people who add to the size to be on the safe side and then get a jacket
too big. Some are regular stock size jackets made for visiting customers.
They are all new. I try to make stock jackets when we are not busy to get ahead of the game. At the end of the day if it fits it fits and if you can walk away with it then why bother with custom made.
It is true, after 30+ years making leather jackets I can look at a person and get the size right, but I have to write it down as after 30+ years the memory has had it.
Cheers

I dropped in at Wested to have the lining in my lambskin repaired and to check out the goat hide. I tried one on and it fit so I bought it. It's now my main jacket and fits better than the lambskin that I had made for me.

My wife found some nice slippers there too

They have visited Wested yes, but I only remember you telling that Peter provided you a fitting jacket with no measurements, just by looking at you.

I bought my Wested about two years ago, and before ordering it, everyone said that I would have to wait for a couple of months to receive it.
I didn't specify any particulars, just a 42 regular, in authentic lamb, with the recommended cotton body and satin sleeves. It showed up about a week and a half later, much to my surprise. I figured either Peter put a rush job on my jacket, working day and night, OR, he sent me one off the rack. Either way, I was VERY happy to get it so soon, and it fits just fine (maybe a little loose around the waist, but nothing I could fix by cinching the side straps a bit).

I am, however, very average sized, which makes an easy fit for off the rack, but WAY hard to find clothes on sale, because my size always seems to be the first to sell out.
