Mk-VII vs. Mk-VI?

Post by Kodiak »

Just wondered if the Mk-VI was as durable, useable, etc. as the Mk-VII. I'm pretty sure I can get one of these bags from Endicotts, and it looks pretty good for me, as I would probably be using it just for hauling stuff around in the woods.

Other opinions?

Regards,

Just as good, but it has pockets on the back of the bag...and a third drainage hole. :junior: -IJ

The MKVI is a very cool and usable bag. The extra pockets on the back are handy, and it looks almost identical to the MKVII

I have 2 VII's, and a VI, and I always used the 6 for 'real world' stuff, and found it VERY durable..so much so, that it now serves *duty as my Geocaching bag. I don't go anywhere without it.

hehehehe...I said 'doody'!

Plus, you can say that the MKV I is kinda/sorta screen-accurate. During the rope bridge fight at the end of Temple of Doom, the bag that bursts into flames was an MKV I bag.

The Mk VII has 16.6% more Mk's than the Mk VI. Sorry. It's late. :?

webhead73 wrote:Kodiak, do you have or would you consider a repo bag? I have heard others make a good bag but mine is from Magnoli. The fabric is much softer than an original, like it's already broken in and all the specs are the same. Solid construction. The only thing I don't like about it is the rings where you attach the straps. Instead of being one solid peice, they have a split so it can be attached to the bag. Not a big problem though, just replace with locking rings that can be found at a home improvement place or a craft store.
I'm going to get one of those eventually, if nothing else just for the strap. I emailed Endicotts and they should be getting back with me soon. If they have a Mk-VII I'll probably buy it, if not I'll be a tossup between Magnoli bag and Mk-VI. If I don't end up with one of them, I'll just have to buy from WPG.

Not all of them. Many of them have two or even one vent, whereas the Mk V often came with three.

My MK-VI has two drain holes.
For every day use I'd go with the VI.
The two extra pockets on the back are very handy.

I've got one of the Repro MK-VIs from Lawrance Ordnance in Sydney and it is more roomier(?)than my WPG Repro MK-VII and my Real Whitley MK-VII because it's a tad bit taller and wider(I did Swindy's little modification and turned the center divider into another small pocket). On a recent trip to Califonia I carried this bag to Disneyland and there was ample room for Maps, tickets,Souvaniers(?),Camera,Journal, pens,Wallet, keys, lose change, and various other stuff.I like the fact that the two pockets are on the back with their own flaps so you don't have to open the main bag all the time. :D

Mk Vl clips

Post by Alan Eardley »

It's amazing what you can turn up. I was in my favourite local surplus store the other day and found a box of NOS strap clips for the Mark 6 bag. In good condition, shiney brass though probably 66 years old and certainly never installed on a strap.

Here's a photo.

I love those- they're so classy! I have a modifed MKVII strap with those clips which I can interchange with my leather strap. Webbing is more comfortable anyway.
