My Wested, nearly 8 years later.

Hello all, it's been a while. Before I have a new lining put in my Wested, I figured I would show a few pics of how it looks now. There's some minor artificial wear, but the majority is just from wearing the ever-loving #### out of it, as evidenced by the lining. I don't take any precautions while wearing it, I've even had to leather weld a few spots.

Ain't it funny,..when you see an older person who looks great for their age, we hope WE look that good when we get there.

When we see an Indy jacket all beat up,....well...

I hope my Wested looks that cool in 8 years.

Now thats the way to disess a jacket. I have a bomber jacket thats over 20 years old and looks fantastic. Wear that jacket with pride my friend.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. When I ordered this jacket, I ordered another with the intent of keeping pristine, while wearing the other to shreds. It's very interesting to see them together now.

Great job, DeWayne. You know, I've had my Wested for nearly four years now amd it has aged nicely as well, however I have noticed a while ago that my jacket has some of the same characteristics as yours, ie the "fold" along the right side of the jacket (that would be the left side of the pic). I often wondered if mine was the only one that done that. I still dont know how (or why) this happens.

Nice! One of the best looking jackets I've seen, maybe because it's worn.

Can I ask what the dimensions of the pockets are, and what size jacket do you wear?

These pockets look smaller than the ones on the new jackets pictured recently. The smaller size looks more screen accurate.

Including the flaps, the pockets are about 6.5" wide by 7.5" tall. I wear a 42 R.

That's all part of the addiction, it gradually fades and then you have to get a hit of that new coat smell!

It's weathered very nicely - still a long way off the radical sandpaper induced weathering of the last Crusade jacket, but that's a good thing IMO.

If it were mine, I'd have Wested change the lining, but it looks great!

Nope. Used this hide rejuvenator stuff for a while, like once a year. That stuff hasn't been available for quite some time. I use some Lexol very occasionally.

So this is 'pre' the discovery of the production jacket during the Wested move?
I think I remember someone at the 2004 UK summit having a Wested jacket not the color of todays authentic, and yours looks to be the same 'pocket and shade of brown' wise, as in a tad darker than the auth,
and with a bit more black than the dark brown.

Main quetion: How should I live my life for the next six years to get my auth. goat to look that nice?

Yeah, it's pre-authentic brown, etc.

I've done everything in this jacket. Changed tires, wrenched on my car, slept in it(no, not taken it as far as sleeping in my own bed in it though), worn it through heavy rains, out in the snow, and basically any other situation that would punish the leather. It's been fun....

Like a fine wine.... I love how your jacket has aged, DeWayne. I'm trying to make decisions for my Wested, so I have to ask; would that color be closer to the dark brown lamb they now have, or closer to the authentic lamb (if you know)?

That colour would have been dark brown. Authentic Brown only came around within the last 3 years or so.

, just kiddin.. but that would be a good screenname, use the shreaded pic as your avatar.. Actually, that shredded collar is a good example why leather lining around the inside of the collar stand is a good idea, but I like it better with the cotton lining and no facing,

Moreover, everybody ignores the part "There's some minor artificial wear". Anyway, after over two years of wearing my jacket to "Michaelson's specification"

I decided to play with aceton. A small natural-distress damage (as the pocket lighten by fastening car's seatbelts) is definitely not enough. I've waited over two years and that was at least a year too long. That's the first time I am saying this loud - if you want Indy's look, go for distressing! YEAH! I said that!

Another advice - you want it to get naturally distressed, you just have to buy two jackets. Time is running fast - do not waste it!

It doesn't mean your distressing job must look exactly like seen in the movie. You are not mannequin - give the jacket its own soul.

Great natural distressing. The liner around your neck is worn quite a bit.

You should shave your neck more often. Looks like some serious stubble damage there!

I wasn't talking about distressing, natural or artificial. I was referring to the fact that the lamb had to be killed before they could take his skin to make the jacket in the first place. You said to give the jacket its own soul. I said he already lost that, some time before the tanning process.

I'm still out here. Kinda. No new lining yet. I keep finding other things to spend my money on. It will be done, some day....

Oh, and when I said minor artifical distressing, I meant I used some 1000 grit sandpaper on it once. Mainly along the seams on the inside of the arms. That area is very hard to get worn out naturally. No chemicals or anything.

Wonderful jacket, DeWayne! That's a fine natural distressing indeed... I would have been tempted to leave the lining as-is (as-was?)

I especially like the look of that right pocket - nice abrasion!

Makes me want to work my jacket a bit more... now where did I put that mink oil and Scotch-Brite pad...?
