MK VII strap

I've been thinking about getting a MK bag to carry my stuff around at the NY gathering this year. I'm wondering if anyone has good pictures of the strap rings, and knows what would be involved to get a leather strap on it. I have no skill with a needle, so keep that in mind. Also, does anyone know how long the original web strap can be adjusted to?

I've got a Magnoli strap, and there's no need to even own Needle and thread to put it on a Mk VII. A screwdriver is all it takes,and maybe a little Loc tite if you're paranoid about the little screws coming loose. On the non-buckle side just run the strap through the ring and connect the end back to the strap with the screw. On the buckle side, run the end through the ring, then thread it back through the underside of the buckle, then connecte it back to itself with the screw. I'm mechanically illiterate (my real world job involves breaking things, not building'em), and it took me all of a minute and a half to do both ends. I left my original strap in place and just tucked it into the bacg.

What are the Tapco straps like in terms of attachment?

Also, if I can't get my hands on an MK VII, how are Magnoli's replicas?

Well, I thought I had found my solution in the Tapco strap, but alas! Fully extended the bag would be right at my belt line, with no room to spare at all. I can see that becoming very uncomfortable for me.

So, it looks like, to be cost effective, I'd be better off getting a replica bag.

It's silly for me to pay $35 for a magnoli strap, and at least $20 + shipping for a vintage bag I have to modidfy.

My choices on a replica seem to be Magnoli bag and strap, or What Price Glory. Any thoughts on the better way to go? I want minimal hassle if I'm going new, and I don't want to have to treat the leather or anything to avoid stains on my shirt. What's a boy to do?

What price glory's strap *****. Go with Magnoli. I got ton's of stains from it so I bought Todd's deluxe strap.

IP, are you saying that the magnoli strap gave you stains, or the What Price Glory?

And so I have this straight; Magnoli bag is good, Todd's deluxe strap is good... what about Todds bag with standard strap?

What price glory's strap leaves stains. Todd buys his bags from What Price glory so the regular strap is the same. I'd get the deluxe strap if I were you.

Hey CJ as a fellow wookiee, I would suggest the Mag-Bag/ strap combo. The leather is fantasticly soft, and well sealed. I've had mine about two months, worn it everyday, been drenched in sweet and rain, and not abit of bleeding. Also the length is pretty good for us taller folks. I'm 6'8'' and my bag hangs below the belt with the buckle a little to left of center.

I'd like to see someone's Magnoli bag, I have a WPG and 2 vintage. The WPG is somewhat lacking.

So far no one has posted pics of a Magnoli bag next to a vintage for a true comparison. I'm not convinced that it is made from the correct material.

As for the Tapco straps, they are nicely aged though a little narrow but much too short. I'm tiny and it just about extends out long enough but the buckle rests at the wrong position.

Just depends on which one's you got. I bought 5 and had about 7" of variation in lenght from each extreme when they were all adjusted the same.

The magnoli bag is here, and it is very nice. I'm glad it's not stiff and new-feeling, and the worn finish is great. I pictured it being larger. Anyway, just waiting on a strap from Todd.

Functional Review Time.

As I said before, the Magnoli bag looks great, and it very soft. Floppy, even. I used it for a while, and at the FL Summit I compared it to a distressed WPG/Todd bag. The WPG held it shape better but that wasn't a major concern for me. Also, you have to distress the WPG yourself. The one complaint I have about the Magnoli is that the divider in the center compartment does not go all the way down to the bottom of the pocket. All my stuff just got mixed together and clumped at the bottom of the bag. The WPG bag I saw didn't have that problem.

Verdict; For an "out of the box" bag that will look right and serve as a basic carry bag, the Magnoli is perfect. For heavier loads and oragnization over looks, think about the WPG. Please note, my opinions do not include the strap. (I just got a strap from Todd, but I was using one from a breif case.)

The original MkVII's have the same problem, at least mine does.

I actually started using Todd's strap, and it's serving well. I got the extar long one because I'm heavy (though not overly tall), and the buckle ends up in just about the right spot!
