hatsdirect advice -- now with pics!!

Post by dr. tyree »

When those of you who own Akubras have ordered them, do you just order over the website? If so, has anyone had any security problems or is it a secure site? I'm not getting my usual pop-up to let me know I am entering a secure page, etc.

Thanks,

the always-paranoid,

Dr. Tyree

I ordered mine from the site with no problems. Does the credit card page have the little locked padlock symbol in the corner?

My dad ordered his Fed over the phone from them. He doesn't like using his card over the net, and I can't say I blame him.

Also, if it is a secure site, the address you should be on when entering that info should be https, not just http.

I've done al of my ordering with them on their website and have never had a problem.

I've only ever used PayPal when dealing with HatsDirect, so no problems there. They send an invoice when you're ready to pay.

Stay tuned for a complete 'security' description by Ron himself, received by me this morning via email regarding this post and the concerns listed above.

As forementioned, here is Ron's response to any security issues:
Visited COW earlier to check a question from a customer and noticed a
web site security thread re our site.

We have three levels of security, one is the standard SSL secure
connection used on most commercial sites. It is the highest
encryption available to commercial operators.

We then have another (custom developed) encoder on our web server,
which secures data further, this is not a commercially available
product and was an investment we made to further protect our
customers data. In the event data or hardware is stolen from our
local computers, customer data cannot be accessed. No data is stored
in any on-line environment.

In the event hardware is stolen, all data to do with mail order is
encrypted and not accessible without passwords - any one wanting to
use these machines would have to totally erase the hard drives to
make the machines functional. Fortunately it has never occurred!

We know these measures are second to none amongst the hat sites, the
investment we have have made in this technology is substantial. By
comparison all other sites we have checked run only with SSL, an
investment of a few hundred dollars.

If you have time and feel it is of enough interest please advise members

Best regards,
Ron Lilburne

...and on that note, my fed regular arrived today and I think it's telling me it wants to be a Raiders hat. Let the tweaking begin, and I'll post a pic as soon as I have it looking decent. Awesome hat!
