Pocket Size re. 'Chris King Wested'

Post by JohnNdy »

In putting together the specs for another future Wested order I have used some specs from the "Chris King" Wested that he put together but I am wondering why the pockets were shrunk down. I understand that the actual dimensions of the film-used jackets were 7 x 8 (with the flap), is this information wrong or was the choice an asthetic one? I am asking because I am wondering what to do (I want a super accurate jacket). Also, do the Wested pockets come more square now by default? So many other Westeds that I have seen, including mine, have these very rounded edges on the bottom of the pockets...

P.S. - Any word on when the new lambskin stock will be depleted, and when this happens will Peter Restock?

For whatever it's worth, I just used the measurements from my post-mod FS seal chrome goat.

I gave Peter the following desire for my Wested pockets:

Left pocket positioned 1 inch away from storm flap seam and 1 1/2 inches up from the bottom of the jacket hem. I would like each cargo pocket to be 8 inches long by 6 3/4 inches wide. The pocket flap to be 3 inches from the top of the rolled seam to the lowest point of the flap. The right side pocket positioned 1 1/2" from the where the zipper attaches and 1 1/2 inches up from the bottom of the jacket hem.

John,
The size of my pockets were deducted from scaling photos. I used one of RobDFW's high res screen grabs and created a pattern for the pocket. In the screen grab, the pocket was clearly more than 1.5 inches above the hem and the pocket flap was lower down. This created the smaller pocket. However, if you look at other scenes, you can see that the pocket is more like the size that Wested make as standard. For my new authentic lambskin that I just received, Peter used his standard size pocket. To my knowledge, all the new pockets have the smaller rounded corners and the flap is 3 inches from the top of the rolled seam to the lowest point of the flap.

Here's a pic showing the lambtouch cowhide on the left and the authentic lambskin on the right.

Thanks so much for the info! Glad to hear the pockets are coming in the more square variety these days...

Hey Chris, my next big gear venture is a new Wested. I am going with a lambskin this time around, I am wondering your opinion on the two different lambs. Which should I get, the "Authentic" or regular. I am having trouble getting used to the lighter color myself.
