My New Wested... Samples, That Is!

Post by Chewbacca Jones »

I am preparing to order my first Wested, and I am quite excited about it. Now that I have samples, I can hardly wait. I see why you all love these jackets so much. I know, this topic has been discussed many times (I've been reading for the last 30 minutes). Still, I have a few quick questions that will make my choice easier, as this will probably be my ONLY Wested. I hope nobody yells at me too much for rehashing old stuff, but my eyes just can't take hunting for these specific answers anymore. It's what I really need to know.

I've narrowed it down to Goat or Lamb. (I didn't care for the cowhide). I've scratched the samples with a knife to see how they take it. I can see why the lamb is popular with the self-distressing crowd. It seems like it will get that Indy look rather easily. The goat seems extrememly resilient. My scrathing has mostly just dulled the finished.

#1; I'm just not that tough on a jacket, so I'm worried that the goat skin might never distress at all for me. Is it really THAT tough? I don't need my jacket to look like it was dragged under a truck through the desert, but a little wear would add character.

#2; I pulled and poked a bit at the samples, and the lamb seems to hold it's proper shape better. Does anyone have trouble with the goat getting stretched out or getting bad hanger marks?

#3; I like the color of the Authentic Goat more than the Authenic Lamb. Is the Dark Lamb close to the Auth. Goat's color, or is it much darker?

#4; Which is lighter in terms of warmth, Goat or Lamb?

#5; My Lambskin sample has a very even texture. Is that just chance, or will the whole jacket be like that?

Well, that's it.

#1 Goat is indeed though. I've had my authentic brown goat for around 18 months and its just now begining to distress. I also like the fact that it is water repellent.

#2 In my experience, goat skin will hold its shape atleast as well as lamb, if not better. I've never hung my Wested on a hanger. It usually gets pitched onto my sofa or bunk. However, unless a quality hanger is used any leather can/will get hanger marks.

#3 Sorry, can't help you here.

#4 I've never had a Wested lamb, but any uninsulated leather jacket is going to be fairly cold unless you wear a sweater under it. However, goat may be a bit warmer than lamb since its heavier.

#5 Most all lamb jackets I've seen have had a smooth even texture all over.

I hope this helps!
