Indy DVD Bonus Disc - What hat is this?

Post by kalkamel »

I was watching the bonus disc that came with the trilogy DVD set and was intrigued when I saw the grey hat in these screenshots:

Are they one and the same? Are they HJs or just some spare hat they had lying around?

I doubt they're HJs. Probably just some stock they picked up along with a bomber jacket to get an approximate "look" for Indy, knowing what elements he would have, but not having costume design at that point.

Isn't that first hat just a pic of the writer for Raiders? I just noticed he was wearing a leather jacket, but originally thought he was a hat wearer prior to the script. Or maybe he was just saluting the script. Fedora

Yep. The man in the pic is a young Lawrence Kasdan, and there's no way the hat he's wearing is the same as what Selleck wears in those screen tests. Aside from the colour they look nothing alike.

Sean Young as Marion....hmmmmm. She might have fit the part. Guess she was destined to work with Harrison Ford after all....even if as a replicant.

They look brown to me. Maybe it’s the lighting?

I remember hearing Spielberg say that Lucas' original idea was for a man in a gray fedora. But they probably saw how it looked and opted for brown.

Selleck's hat is nice though. I would wear it.

I think on the bonus disk Spielberg or Lucas mention Kasdan always wearing a fedora, and having a 30's sensibility (or something like that).

Thought Bink and I had this sorted out long time ago - it's "BRAY", okay?

And BTW - the shirt is a special-dye off-beige sandstonekhaki.

Glad we had this sorted out. Now much more time for serious matters. Like grooves or not... Argggggggggggggh!

Stay tuned for more true stories on... the way ...

Cheers

Bray it is, my friend. As for the grooves, those came along when Indy started playing soul music.

Actually it was something like "There were no gray/grey hats made for, or worn by, Harrison Ford in any of the Indiana Jones movies".

Hey VP, If you keep repeating that over and over again, you could become an Indy IV insider. 8)

I don't remember the "warn by" part, only the "made for Ford" part. Which means Ford could have warn one, just not one made for him.
